knocking Engine?
knocking Engine?
In my TL's engine compartment, near the passenger side, i can hear a faint noise of like something hitting something else. I always hear it when the car is hot or cold and is in park, (with Me outside the car) I told my service manager about the pinging article on the service bulletins, which dealt with a heat shield problem,he installed the part and the noise is still there. Any suggestions?
noises
If there knocking noises check valve clearence and intake manifold tuning valve. Also some noise can be heard from belts, pulleys ,water pump ,tensioners etc. You did not say if sound is rpm related. Try useing a hose to try and pinpoint location of noise. What does your dealer say?
Actually, I've heard that "pinging" noise too. It's very faint and comes from the right end of the engine/glove compartment. My service manager said that it was normal...something about how the engine was built and the kick that it produces...I think you're good to go.
first of all, i also got the rpms up and still could hear it, also, before i took the car in and they said they couldn't figure it out. My older cousin has an 05 tl and his is totaly silent, ( he has twice the milage I do)
I have the same problem, and acura is enable to find the source. It's almost like a diesel sometimes. If i rev up at 1500 RPM it's veray clear in park or neutral. FOr me it's like a metal sheet rubbing over another one
took it to the dealership and guy said that the car has a fuel pressure thing overtere that realses fumes from the tanks when the car is idling. He said it is normal, but it may be sign that gas uyou use isn't to good.

Assuming your car does not suffer from the well-documented heat shield problem, you are stuck with the same problem I have in my 04.
The 1st time I heard the pinging was under moderate acceleration while I was entering the freeway. The pinging or knocking sounds like a few pebbles in a can being rattled around. If you have heard a motor that is low on oil, you get the idea. When it started, I heard the ping around 2000 RPM, between 40-50 MPH but I have got to the point where I can make the car ping almost at any speed now
I have been through five service visits specifically for pinging. The Acura Tech Line's mantra on engine pinging is (and has been) “You must have bad gas” or “All TLs have this problem”
My knee-jerk reaction to the "all TLs have this problem" comment is, many fuel tanks on Ford's Escort model were cracking and causing fires - I guess the service manager could have said the same "hey, all Escorts have this problem". Ford was forced to conduct a major recall.
An auto manufacturer does not get a "free pass" on consumer liability issues, just because they are able to produce several cars that have the same problem.
I have run nothing less than 93 octaine from Exxon, Mobil and Shell gas stations.
I have attempted running the FL lemon law gauntlet, only to be denied, “The problem does not significantly impact the operation of the vehicle”
In the process I found out the ugly truth about dealer service. The dealer is going to work on your pinging problem ONLY if it gets reimbursed from Acura. If your car is pinging and does not have a problem code in the computer, they are going to give you a minimal effort. You can't blame the dealer - they are in the business to make money and Acura will not reimburse them for troubleshooting down to component level.
I would guess we have bad knock sensors
