I've run into a problem. Please help.

I changed my pressure switches and did a 3x3 on Saturday. Today when I pulled in the garage I noticed a puddle where I park and looked under my car and saw it's leaking transmission fluid. It's coming from the area of the switches, I believe the 3rd gear switch to be exact. This is a picture of how it looks right now:
Nothing was off on Saturday and it drove great that day, Sunday and yesterday also. Just noticed the puddle today. I checked the switches and they seem to be on there tight. What could be the problem? Do I need to remove the switch and use a gasket when I replace it?

you should use the replacement gasket when you swap out your old switches for the new ones. did you buy new gaskets?

Do not drive it.

did you install a washer/gasket?

check the tranny fluid level. top off if needed.

There were no gaskets on it when I took off the old switches. I have 1 gasket and 9 qts of fluid on order. I will not drive it until I fill it up.

^meaning no I did not replace any gaskets on Saturday.

Ok so I take off each switch (there are only 2...06 ATM) and put a gasket on and I should be good to go after I top the fluid off again?

Ok thanks for the help. I only have 1 gasket and the other is on order, should be here tomorrow. One more question...if the transmission fluid gets overfilled how do you remove some? Just remove the drain plug?

if you have some sort of pump i'm sure you could just stick it through the dip stick tube.

my father has a oil pump for his BMW that sucks oil from the oil pan via dip stick tube.

Are they actually "gaskets" - i.e. rubber, paper or similar - or are they "crush" washers?

Just curious since this is on my list of things to do.

I believe they're technically metal crush washers.

ATF drain/fill plugs and pressure switches...how tight?

I did a 3x3 and replaced the 3rd & 4th pressure switches. I've searched and searched and can't find anything to tell if there's a specific pressure each piece should be tightened to. Any help?

i hgad the same problem, leaking from the 3rd gear sensor. dealer diganoised and fixed for me ( costs me $180 ). prob was the the old washer we used. def buy 2 new crush washers. also ran my TL low on AFT, caused a horrible burnt ATF smell. it still bothers me to this day. however my car runs and drives great and im going to buying an extended warranty just in case i fried a clutch pack!

I got the 3rd gear fixed with the 1 gasket I have. The other will be here tomorrow and get fixed. I'll top it off with some Racing ATF and hopefully I'll be good to go. A crazy fast fix, I just hate waiting for the other gasket to get here and I'm kicking myself for not doing it right the first time.

Probably would be very rare but the leak could be coming from the joint area between the plastic & metal of the switch itself, hope it's the gasket.
To remove some fluid remove the fill cap (very tight usually) & take a turkey baster with a length of rubber hose & suck it out that way.

It's a possibility. I haven't started the car or driven it yet, I'm waiting for the 2nd gasket to get in today. I'll watch it like a hawk to check for leaks. 1 more question...if the switches are overtightened on the gaskets and then loosened to the correct poundage could the gaskets be ruined?

I think that's the second time I've asked that question.

Anyone? Am I just going to have to try it out and hope I'm not screwed?

I did not take a look at the gaskets when i helped my buddy.....but like the others in this thread...if they are crush washers, then you would need to get new ones everytime.

Let me explain. On Saturday I replaced the 2 pressure switches. I put them on with no gaskets. The 3rd gear switch began to leak so I was able to get one gasket yesterday (brand new) that I put on. My question is if I overtightened that brand new gasket before I was able to use a torque wrench and set it to the correct pressure is that brand new gasket ruined or will it be ok? I'm picking up the other gasket from the dealer today and will be able to set it to the right pressure the first time.

I would put NEW washers on, You will definitely run a greater risk of leaking with this type of washer "that has possibly been over tightened", "then backed off a bit to factory specs"

Hope you read this and get Two new washers today.

Good luck

Ok got the gaskets on and everything seems to have sealed up. Haven't been able to really give a good washing to the undercarriage so there is still some random drips of fluid that had blown up into the car but I think we're good.

So far, so good. Drove it this morning with no problems. I've checked for leaks prob 4 times today and nothing new. Still a few drops from what had previously leaked out and was still on the frame but that's ok. I am getting an undercarriage wash tomorrow. I think we're good.
