Issue at start up

Whats up guys I bought a car and I'm having an issue, now that i own a 2G I've noticed theres not as many knowledgeable members in that section of the forum like there are in the 3G so i thought id give it a try here to see if you guys could help since i owned a 3G as recent as last month and id really like to figure this out soon as possible. The car involved is a 02 TL-S 145k bone stock whenever i turn the car on it misfires initially like its going to turn off then i give it a bit of gas and the car instantly idles normally. This happens every time i turn the car on mostly when its cold but also when the car is already warm. I don't have a CEL but i do have a code for EVAP leak. The last owner had the car sitting for a few months before i bought it since the tranny was no good, any idea what my problem could be? The car has a new battery, only thing i could think of is maybe plugs since it was sitting for so long or maybe mounts? This is really annoying since the car gives me no issues at all besides this and i hate the feeling that the car is going to shut off on me before i even start driving it.

The transmission was rebuilt then the next day it took a crap on me again so the car is at the shop now getting fixed again since i have a 6 month warranty on the rebuild but i really think this has nothing to do with the transmission. The code was P1456

i'm not saying this was caused by a bad trans - more so an issue that may have been caused by the repair work. was this happening before the trans issue?

the code p1456 is for a loose or faulty gas cap, which when i say faulty usually is deterioration of the rubber inner seal or failure to seat properly

What speed does it typically idle at when it feels like its misfiring?

I would remove and clean the IACV.

It can be several things. Hose leak/blockage, fuel tank/pressure sensor, EVAP valve/bypass solenoid, EVAP two way valve, EVAP canister/ vent valve

i started simple as the common individual does not have knowledge around these areas, especially how they work. if the gas cap isn't the fix i'd be happy to elaborate and go into greater detail on all, or any one, of the items you mentioned

My mechanic also told me my best bet is the gas cap which i could have left a bit loose the last time i got gas because i pumped my own gas due to the fact i was in another state and it was the first time i had ever pumped my own gas. Tomorrow i will check the codes again to see if its still there, I'm guessing if i haven't got a CEL it can't be that bad but i have a hard time believing that code would be the cause of my idle problem. Also yes the day i bought the car and drove it to the transmission shop it was hard to start, the car cranks for longer than it should and when it does turn on it has that rough idle/misfire like i stated.

it goes down to as low as 800 rpm then when i rev it it goes back to the original idle rpm which i believe is like 1200 rpm but not exactly sure.
