Interior lights randomly come on
Interior lights randomly come on
Has anyone had there interior lights randomly come on while driving and a chime go off? I hear a small chime and the dome lights come on for like 3 seconds then go away. I dont see any lights on dash that say what the problem would be. Any ideas? thanks
Bad door switch?
If you're sure all the doors were closed tight it is most likely a fault in the pin switch in one of the doors. This used to be a fairly common problem in American cars. Do you also get the open door icon on the MID? I'd bet you do, and if you can catch a good look at the icon it will tell you which door has the bad switch.

A quick way to check, and this is one of the ways we do it at work, is to first put all the windows down, then (with the car running), lock all the doors. Then go around from door to door and pull, either on the door (at the bottom of the window), or on the handle, though I don't recommend the handle. You're pulling on the doors to simulate them opening a little around a turn/bump, causing the door switch to indicate "open door". Reason for having the car running is because you'll set the alarm off otherwise (locking it with the key out, etc); that's just annoying, but moreso because you'll be able to get audio confirmation (the door chime/warning) as well as visual (the MID indicating a door open).
Find the problem switch; it may not be bad, just may need adjusting. If no door acts up, you can try the trunk, although it's very rare for the latch to go bad (in that sense; we see them just flat out fail to open usually).
Good luck!

As someone said, they sometimes need some adjustment. The door is supposed to push the plunger in far enough to break the circuit. I'd mess with it, pull it out, see if it seems to function correctly on its own, in which case it presumably needs a mounting adjustment. If you can push the plunger in all the way and still make the interior lights come on by some means--position, rotation, pulling (gently) on the wire lead, etc.--it probably needs to be replaced. I believe you will have to keep the metal part of the switch in contact with the car body for the interior lights to come on.
