Intake Manifold Cover Cleaning

Hey guys,

I did some searching around for this but didn't see any threads so I am likely searching with the wrong terms.

My car's previous owner had a problem with letting things get corroded in the engine bay. So I am in the slow process of undoing the process by replacing parts or cleaning.

My engine intake manifold cover has some corrosion going on at the lettering. I realize its purely a cosmetic problem but its one of those things that will bug me. Are there any ways to clean up the lettering? I have thought about taking a wire brush to it but am concerned about the brush pulling up the paint on the cover surrounding the letters.

Any advice is appreciated.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. The part you are referring to on the intake manifold is actually just a cover secured by 10 bolts. You can just order a new one online and replace it. I don't think it was too expensive.

I know its just a cover. Its a $50 part though. And really the only thing wrong with it is a small amount of corrosion on the top of the letters. The bolts and the rest of the cover are perfectly fine. I would prefer to just be able to clean it if possible otherwise I will likely just live with it being a little unattractive.
