I hate the 5AT in my '08 TL!
I hate it so much that I'm seriously considering finding a low mileage 6MT TL-S no matter the distance or price. Keep in mind my current TL replaced a 2003 CL-S 6MT.
I had a transmission shudder last year going from 3rd to 4th gear and a very slight shudder in 5th at lower RPM. I took it do the dealer and they said the transmission fluid was old but not burnt (43k). I had the flush performed and all was well. My (awesome) service advisor (at Courtesy Acura in Lexington, Ky) told me even though Acura recommends tranny fluid changes at 60k that he recommended 40k intervals. I put a lot of highway miles on the TL and I'm starting to noticed the tranny exhibit the same annoying characteristics again. No shudder (yet) but jerky shifts and sometimes when I'm in sport shift mode during aggressive driving it will stay in 2nd gear. A brief shift to neutral and then back to drive cures it but it looks like a need another fluid change. This just seems like poor engineering from my standpoint. I know the fluid is the culprit but the fluid itself seems to degrade at a quick rate. Does anyone know of a good quality ATF that I can use in place of the crap from Honda?

Search the forum and you will find more on ATF than you ever wanted to know. Careful though, some information is spot on and some you will wish you hadn't lost the 10 seconds of your life to read. Redline D4 ATF is in my car, once it was changed out from the stock fluid that looked liked driveway sealer per the color I have drain and fill 3.5 quarts once a year. Last 2 times the fluid drained out has looked like brand new, not burnt to $hit like the OE fill.

Im just starting to switch my fluid over to redline d4 and with only 3 qts so far I have noticed a big difference in shifts, much quicker and firmer which is what i'm looking for. Before I was getting slow shifts and a very small amount of shudder between shifts.
