You should be able to adjust the plastic brackets that the bumper snaps into.

Also, there might be something bent that's not allowing the bumper to snap into place correctly.

Remove the bumper and take a look. Hopefully you don't find out it was in an accident at some point. You can also check if the bumper is OEM or not. The OEM vin tag is viewable when you open the trunk, on the passenger side jam.

It's very common to see aftermarket bumpers not fitting quite right.

I had the same problem and originally just pulled out the bumper and used some clear Silicon RTV sealent, using blue painters tape to hold the sides in place till dry. When I upgraded to the 07 base bumper and ASPEC I found that there are two black plastic brackets right under the sides where the bumper mounts...(the place you say thats sticks out) When you pull off the bumper you will see them left and right side.. They are held on by two 10mm screw heads each... If they are loose or not adjusted (slid) more towards the front of the car they will not pinch the bumper clips properly at reasembly.... Sorry I have no pics but I adjusted mine to pinch with no problems.... Good Luck

If they are not popping out to the right or left I would think you are good... The perfectionist in me might try a bit of adjustment to close the gap a bit....but if you check dealer lots for an average car I'd say again your ok....

I'm having a similar problem. My car was hit and had to get a new bumper. Ever since, when it's warm out or the car is sitting in the sun, the driver's side of the bumper sticks out (when it's cold, or at night, it contracts back to flush). I think the clips that nicourt is talking about (the black brackets on the side of the bumper just below the tail lights) need to be adjusted, at least for the driver's side. I wasn't sure if there was adjustment in those brackets since I haven't had time to take the bumper off but from what nicourt is saying, it sounds like there is. I'm hoping that takes care of it because it looks terrible.

I know its been a while but i got around to tightening the back bumper up. It looks better, but now its not flush with the bottom of the lights. I forgot to check to see if this is a oem bumper or not, do you experiece these kind of problems if it was a oem bumper?
