I peeled back the top trunk liner this evening and found a line of rust going all the way across the top of the trunk area in these seams (below rear window). Is this in any way normal for an older car and this area? Any chance it’s a DIY repair or is this gonna cost alot at a shop?

it depends on how much rust is actually there, how deep it goes etc. You can always scrape, sand it, smear some bondo on it with your fingers then sand that and apply a rust reformer. Eastwood makes a non spray type You can brush on. At least you'll keep it at bay
