How long will a clutch last??????
My car has 80k on it now. I don't beat on it from a stop ever although I do like to nail it every once in a while from a roll, and I don't power shift. I have seen a lot of threads from people stating they needed new clutches at really low mileage. So far the clutch feels good and does not even hint at slipping. I really want to keep this car for a while but I don't like the idea of spending $2200 on a clutch replacement. (the timing belt service at 100k is expensive enough)
I have driven a lot of miles on manual transmission cars and with the exception of my modded Trans Am (I did race it a lot ) I never had to replace one.
What is the highest mileage manual car a member has on this forum with the stock clutch and why is replacement so expensive? I had a Centerforce clutch put in my TA. $600 for the clutch and $300 labor.
Minor gripes aside (premature leather wear, button lights going out, clutch "click" when it is warm out, rattles) this has been the best running, most trouble free car I ever owned. I just wish it were rear wheel drive
ps
Azine has THE best smilies of any forum. wtf is this ??

it depends on how you drive, I can kill a clutch in about 2 miles or I can drive well and keep it up until 215K. Also on the TL, the clutch is like a light switch, On or OFF, the clutch has a spring in it to keep the engagement at the same rate, that's why you can just drop the clutch and have it engage in a snap, it will ease in due to the mechanism

ford trucks are not acura TL!!
I have seen gen3 TL clutches go as low as 18k miles- young owner beat the crap out of it and sold car--to next person who said- gee the clutch feels fine to me....
a few weeks later it wont shift!!
Its so expensive because the parts cost a lot and some very special acura tools are required to install the trick pressure plate
On the pessure plate: ther is a special mechanism that auto adjust the freeplay inside the clutch- so you cant see or feel wear happening like a normal car,
It will work great right up to the day it stops working~

It all depends on how you drive - I just had mine replaced at dealership it cost 1700 total with 2 mounts replaced. I live in Chicago area. I drive 35 miles to work one way daily and stuck in traffic half the time. My clutch started to slip at 75k miles. I noticed it when I tried to pass a car on the highway dropping into lower gear.
