How do you take your key out when turning off engine?

I think I have a problem. I believe I should be able to push in the key at position "II" and turn the key all the way to the "off" position and pull the key right out. For some reason I get stock on "I". I'll then have to push it in from that position and take the key out. I made a thread about this before and I thought I was just doing it wrong, but now I think I actually do have a problem with my ignition.

make sure your car is in park if you have an automatic
if that wasnt the problem(doubted it was, but sometimes i forget i still have my foot on the brake and wonder why my key wont come out ^^
then push the key into the steering wheel and turn it towards "off"
