Hood Strut Question.

Hood Strut Question.
Forgive me, I just need clarification.
My 2007 TL's hood struts are now dead, and the replacement number I'm coming up with is Sachs #SG326009. I have found '04, '05 & '06 owners use this, but wonder if it's the same with the 2007. Calling Autozone, they say the Sachs number for the 2007 is SG365001, and they can't get it.
Any clarification?

I assume they're gas as well as hydraulic struts. When it's cold, gas contracts and has less ability to extend the strut. I've noticed this on mine in the winter in the past few years. The hood won't fall, but it needs a little assistance to be pushed up. As long as the weight of the hood doesn't exceed the ability of the strut to hold it up, your struts are likely fine.

I got mine at OReilly and they are Sacks. The OEM struts lasted 6 years and that's not a bad life if you consider the environment these struts live in.
I bought two struts but found that just replacing one was enough to keep the hood up. It's much easier closing the hood too- I often thought I was going to bend the hood with the level of force needed to close it when the car was new. I'll keep the extra strut and replace the other side in a couple of years.

Got mine at Rockauto too. Super easy to replace. Beats getting whacked on the back of the head by your hood, I can tell you that.

Thanks for the info guys! I just ordered 2 hood struts from rockauto. This will actually be my very first DIY so I'm kinda excited. I know it's lame because they're so easy to install but I've never done anything before so it's a start.
On a side note. Does anyone know what this ground wire could be for? It's taped to my hood strut. I'm thinking it might be for an automatic starter? The dealer never gave me the fob for the starter but I'm under the impression that I have one because there's a sticker under the hood.

Whatever it is, it's not stock. So, yeah, an add-on remote starter would fit the bill.

Then pick whichever option you want. My car is an 04 so I picked the SACHS. Sachs/Stabilus is the OEM part for the car but I'm sure all will work fine.

Sometimes 2 different part numbers = 2 different manufacturers or a revision for some odd reason

Well it depends what site you're using. But if you go to rockauto.com it walks you through the steps. Just click Acura-Year of Car- TL- Body/Exterior-Lift Support

Yea it's the same for both sides. I'd definitely get two, because you probably don't know which one isn't working, if its only one. I'd assume both of them probably need changed though.

I got my struts from acurapartssource via eBay for $54 for both. This is an Acura Dealer in Cali so all the parts are OEM. My local dealer in NC was selling them for $60 each!

No problem. I'm sure you can figure out how to put them on, but if not you just get a flathead and pull out the metal clips then the strut comes off. It literally takes a minute or two. Took a bit longer for me because I was in the dark garage with a flashlight and nobody/nothing to help me hold up the hood. Haha

Make it so
I replaced my hood struts last spring with the Stabilus (same as SACHS, apparently, from what I'm reading in this thread) and got them for $14.
Originally I was going to purchase them from RockAuto, but I happened to find that the O'Reilly Auto Parts store nearby had them for a bit cheaper, plus I didn't have to pay shipping. Bought a pair, I was set to go.
I know it's not usual policy for stores to do that, but it was just my luck that they did. If you happen to be out and about, and especially if O'Reilly parts is nearby, it's worth seeing what their price is for the pair.
I hate auto parts stores in general because they tend to sell really sub-par brands, but this time I lucked out. Good luck!

I love how the guy said he already bought the parts and people are still commenting telling him where he should look to buy the part...? I guess some people just read the threat title and don't read what people actually write.

The OEM brand is SACHS/Stabilus. They are about $15 each on RockAuto website. The dealer website might charge you $25 for one that says HONDA, but it's SACHS.

Damn, that sucks. But just copy the part number and order them from somewhere else. Might be a little more expensive but they should have them everywhere. They might even have them at a local Autozone or something for decent price
