Hood Damage... Replace Entire Hood??

Hello,

My 2006 TL was hit while parked and the front of the hood was dented in and the plastic grill slightly cracked. I went to a local body shop and they said that the only way to fix it is to replace the entire hood and to "fade" the fenders to match. They told me the hood cannot be bent back into shape since its a two-panel hollow piece.

Does this sound right that the entire hood would have to be replaced for something which is seemingly minor?

Thank you,

Rody

Post some pics. Depends on how much a new hood cost vs the labor charge on the body work to repair the damage.

That doesn't look that bad from the picture. Maybe you should get a 2nd opinion? Or just get your insurance company to deal with it... just pay your comprehensive deductible.

Where are you located?

That would be great to get show a pic from the side, showing how much its pushed inward.

That's definitely fixable. PDR method could also minimize that, but the paint does look damaged on the edge. I would get a few quotes and compare. A quality high end shop should be able to fix that, keeping the repair/primed area as small as possible, and keep enough of the color away from the edge near the fender. It can be a tricky repair, but do-able. What color is the car? If its NBP the fenders do not need to be blended.

thank you for your feedback. I definitely want the repair to be done the right way... and if thats what it takes that's fine, i just wanted to double-check what other thoughts or previous experiences were.

The car color is: Anthracite (dark gray)

Ok, now viewing the whole panel, that does need to be replaced. The fenders also need to be blended.
