Highway Blowout - Now ABS-VSA-! Lights On

Had a front passenger blowout last week on the highway going about 80mph (05 TL Auto). After we got back on the road, the ABS, VSA, and (!) lights were on. I did a little research and the likely culprit is that the speed sensor likely got moved or damaged during the blowout. My car is out of warrant and I live 100 miles from the nearest dealer. Is there anyway I can check this myself? Anyone have experience/pictures/diagrams for checking or replacing the speed sensor?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Try taking the sensor off and inspecting it for damage. Also clean it and the contacts around the axle. Often, these get dirty and throw false warnings. Yours might have gotten hit or something (piece of rubber) may have gotten lodged between the sensor and the axle.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. Do you know where I could find diagrams or pictures of it? I'm not sure exactly where it is located.

Thanks!

Sorry. I don't know of any diagrams, and I've never seen it on the TL, but it's that electrical thing on the spindle with the wires in it.

Try searching around the circumference of the CV Axle. It will be somewhere close to the "teeth-like" ring around the axle.

That's what I'm thinking. Anyone have any tips/advice for checking it?

check the "VSA" and "!" threads. I read one where somebody gave a pretty detailed description of what to clean when treating speed sensors. Those that drive in snow a lot get dirty sensors.

It's a wheel speed sensor, not the vehicle speed sensor in the trans. I've never done one in the TL but you should be able to see the wire running to it located near the spindle. Follow the wire, it should be the only electrical item in the area.
