High pitch noise on cold start
Hi guys,
Does anybody have this problem? Every morning when I start my car, there is a high pitch noise coming from the engine.... Is it that my belt on the SC is loose, worn out (20k miles)?
Thanks in advance,
J.R.

Belt or Power Steering box/power asist
I'm not sure if its one or the other, or both. I came to this forum to find the answer myself. My wife bought a used 2004 TL and it makes the high pitch noise when cold. It gets louder as you turn the steering wheel either way.
I've owned mostly american junkers and its always been a loose or old belt, or the power steering is low on fluid or there is a problem with the box.
I do have one complaint, this site is difficult to get around to finding something simular in problems. I use Dodge Talk to get answers to my Trucks problems and the site is real easy to find threads that pertain to your particular problem. I won't defend the brand, but the site is great.
If you found the answer let me know.
Thank you

The TL is pretty pissy on cold starts. Between the ULEV and systems pressurizing, it makes a lot of noise. I found that turning off the AC on cold starts calms it down.

I'm experiencing the same thing on my '04 TL, 47K miles. It started three weeks ago and has gotten progressively worse on cold starts. I just moved to Atlanta from Orlando, FL. This was never an issue in FL.
I'm taking my car in to Acura service to have it looked at next week.

My '04 TL has the exact same problem, and it is in the dealership as we speak to have it looked at. It is so frustrating because the car started having the problem about 3 weeks ago, and I have not been able to reproduce it unless it is in the morning and it is cold out.
If anybody has a solution to this problem it would save me lots of time and money!

high pitch noise on cold start
Hello and sorry no answer at this time. I do however have another question to see if we all have the same problem. when it makes the noise if your windows are down, turn your wheels right to left, does the sound get higher or changes in pitch? Mine does, thats why I think it the belt or the power assist unit. Our car just hit 50K in miles.
I'm trying to get a friend to look at it to see if I'm right or I need to take it to the dealership and bend over for them.
Keep me posted on what you find out.

It's definitely the power assist unit and mines done it since day one when I maneuver in a tight 2 car garage. It seams to only do it on cold starts so probably just a touchy system with cold ps fluid running through the pump.
Most cars I've owned make a little noise when taxing the power steering pump if you're really listening. They're pretty high pressure systems.

I'm having the same problem (noise only when its cold)... I took it up to my friend to look at and he said that It was indeed the power steering unit (made different pitch when you turn the wheels)... the fluid levels are fine as well!
So he called up the dealer to get a price $ 360 for the pump alone, and the dealer mentioned that there is a known problem with the orignal pumps... the worst part is I'm at 55k mi and so the warrenty just expired.
Would you replace it now, or wait till it goes bad? Any onw know of a fix maybe?
oh yea, it looked like there were air bubbles in the top of the resivor if that makes any difference

On a real cold morning (in the 20's), when I start my car up, I sometimes hear a high pitch sound that is tied directly to the stereo unit. I lower the volume, the high pitch is lower, raise the volume its louder. Once the stereo warms up (about a minute or two) the high pitch goes away.
I have also noticed this high pitch sound once in the summer with temperatures around 95 degrees and the air conditioning was on as well.
Anyone experience that kind of high pitch?

I have the high pitch sound also when it's cold out, it's got to be the power steering pump, when you turn the wheel left to right it chirps and squeals more and gets louder. Without a doubt the power steering pump, I bought my TL used with 34 K on it, 2004. It only does this in cold weather, after about 10-15 minutes of warming up the noise is completely gone, guess it just has to get pressurized, I'm not replacing mine until it starts making the noise constantly or causes another problem.

Not powersteering related but mine has a whining sound from the trans when cold. Most likely the input shaft because it goes away when I put it in gear whether drive or reverse. Changes with engine rpm and has always made the noise.

WOW thank god I'm not the only one with this problem.
Starting last week my car on cold starts in the morning starting making these weird noises like a hissing noise/high pitch noise. It continued in the low rpms and idle as well.
P.S. I have an 05.
