HID bulb

Hey guys i just noticed that my left headlight isnt working anymore, i was wondering, what model or what type of bulb should i get? Because ive seen that theres like a lot of colors of bulbs, i would just like to stick to the stock ones, where would you suggest me to buy them? Autozone? Napa?
And would it be better to just replace the burned bulb or both of them?
I have a 2005 white acura tl btw

OEM bulbs are Phillips 85122 and are about 100 bucks. Or you can switch up to some CBIs for about 200. Or get some Morimoto XB35 from www.theretrofitsource.com for about $50.

Depends on your budget.

I'd check to make sure it's the bulb and not the igniter/ballast. If do this by swapping bulbs from the drivers to passengers side to confirm.

Definitely check to make sure its the bulb as thoiboi has mentioned. Usually when a bulb is about to go it will normally turn pink and that's your que to replace them.
Our cars stock used Osram 66240 or 66040 4300K.
You want to look for a D2S bulb, really depends or your budget. The most popular bulb on the forum right now is the Osram 66240 CBI, but the Morimoto XB bulbs seem to be building quite the reputation lately.

So I also just had a bulb go out, I an looking at replacing both wit the XB35 5500K. (thanks for mentioning the discount code)

Anyway my question is if I am going through all the work to pull off the bumper, should I replace anything else while I am there... My gut tells me to replace the ballasts and Igniters as well.

Looks like I can get an entire Kit from TRS for about half what the dealer wants for one bulb!

No, you shouldn't go through the trouble of replacing the ballast and igniter. If they're not broken, no reason to. Removing the bumper takes 15 minutes at best once you're used to doing it. I can take it off in less than 5 minutes, and I'm no wizard.

If the ballasts and igniters work, stick with them. The OEM ones on ours are great.

I didn't remove the bumper and got the bulbs swapped, but its cramped. Definitely replace both, as you should with just about any bulb. It's not like the other working headlight has less hours on it.

No sense in replacing working OEM ballasts with aftermarket as they are typically far superior quality over aftermarket. If you're willing to spend the money, I would replace a failed OEM ballast with another factory one, unless you don't care how long it lasts. The bulbs themselves are far less critical as far as reliability goes, but for the best output, alignment, and color temp, an OEM bulb is generally the best bet. It's not a big deal to run aftermarket bulbs, just avoid going above 5000K, you loose light output and the headlights are going to look blue to most other drivers. The OEM's generally start out around 4300K.

You have a million other threads asking the same question. I don't believe anyone needs to repeat it.

Want the best? CBI 66240.
Want good bulbs? XB35.
Want a middle ground? Philips 85122+.

Are you a first time customer? I order the xb35 5500k for the TL, I didn't like it because the light output is narrow, not like the oem bulb. You get what you pay for I guess.

Replaced my OEM Philips bulbs with a set of the Philips CBI competitor model. They are awesome. Also used the acurazine code, model below.

How is light output (usually measured in lumens) described as narrow ( a measure of width..)??

Are you sure you properly seated the d2s bulb into the projector bowl?

Got pics?

I just received my new HID headlight bulbs. Looks like the best/easiest way is to remove the bumper? Any other tips or recommended YouTube videos? Thanks!

FYI, a very good alternative is Kensun bulbs... $22.00 a pair.

Color Temperature

I prefer 6K for overall light out put and sign luminosity. This is especially true if you live in a wet climate. That is because visible light is reflected off of the wet pavement, making the brightest bulbs useless, unless it is of the right color temperature... 6K. In other words the 6K color temperature works like a black light on the street signs... Make the street signs and lane lines really light up for much better visibility in wet or dry weather... Now you know.

BTW, clear lenses makes the most difference for light out put on any car.
