Hesitation during acceleration

I have an 04 TL with 100k miles on it. When I am accelerating, I feel a loss of power and the car vibrates throughout, almost as if there is an issue with the fuel pump. This only happens occasionally, but usually around 25mph when it is about to shift into third. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions on what to check?

Auto trans?
If "yes," has the trans fluid been changed previously?
If "yes," there are some threads regarding changing the auto trans sensors @ parts cost of $150 or so.
If "no," change the transmission fluid NOW w/Honda ATF-- and change ATF every 30K miles henceforth.

Also, any CEL? If "yes," pull codes.

my car was doing something similar shifting into third and it was the torque converter.

I'm dealing with the same problem. I recently got an 05 TL with 47k miles, and now I feel a lag and or hesitation during acceleration. The occurrence is sporadic and happens in 1st and 2nd gear. Dont know if its the tranny, fuel management or what. Acura told me that my TL wasn't part of the fuel management recall. I only use premium grade fuel. Diagnostic is $112 per hour

I have the problem they keep telling me nothing is wrong but I know its gonna be a torque converter or fuel pump. I have changed everything else in the system including the trans.

Just and update on the lagging problem.....

So i replaced the IAT sensor, removed the AI resonator, and Sea Foamed the TL on Saturday hoping that the problem would be resolved. That didn't do me any good, but was worth a try for $35 rather than spending 112 per hour at Acura just for them to say they don't know what the problem is....

So today ill be replacing the Tranny Temp Sensor with my fingers crossed in good faith that this mystery is history. I also plan to replace the spark plugs incase its a fuel detonation problem. Quoted price on a Torque converter is $300-400 dollars for the TL.

Ill keep you guys informed upon success.

Your issue sounds different from that of the OP.
Have you reset your ECU (which adapts to driving patterns) yet?
If not, try doing that first. If yes, carry on...

Had the exact same problem and same year. Took it in to get looked at and received a call today saying they are ordering a new tranny. Luckily, it is covered by power train warranty.

I thought about resetting the ECU, but I wasn't sure if that was a necessary step. I did disconnect the battery when I replaced the IAT sensor, but I'm not sure if that would affect/change ECU data. I still haven't replaced the spark plugs or the Tranny Temp sensor, but I already purchased the sensor.

Disconnecting the battery won't reset-- here is the reset procedure:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=30

Try that-- if the shift issue resolves, try to get a refund on the sensor.

Will Y, Thank you for your suggestions, I did try the reset!

So its been a little over a week since I reset the ECU per the instructions given. Unfortunately for me, the problem still exists and I still have no clue as to what the exact problem is. I'm really leaning towards believing that this might be a fuel management issue. One minute I have lovely lane changing power, then the next minute it will 'DRAG-ASS' accross an intersection, or from a stop sign or when entering the highway. This problem is really pissing me off a whole bunch. Happens mostly on Hot/Humid days. Pedal to the metal, it feels like its pulling off in 2nd gear even when its in first gear during shift mode. Also, when I was using the A/C the other day, the RPM's dropped low and it felt like it was gonna stall out when i pulled from a stop sign. i dont think its the Tranny because the RPM's still rise with the speed/movement of the car, but it takes a long time to reach the designated speed (30-40mph) Any idea?

I have the same problem, sometimes it takes half throttle just to keep up with people from a redlight.

If you have the money, throw some unleaded race gas or a few gallons of tolulene or xylene available at paint stores. If the problem goes away, it's detonation. If it's still there it's something else.

I noticed you said the car shakes. Could this be transmission shudder? Replace fluid. If the fluid has already been changed, install new 3rd and 4th gear pressure solenoids. At your mileage, even if these don't fix the problem, they are likely due.

IAT sensor or dirty EGR valve? That's usually the answer for Honda Odyssey 3.5 V6 engines with similar symptoms.

i have a similiar issue and my check engine light came on yesterday..it lags around 20-30mph or so..also shifts pretty hard from first into second while i was in traffic yesterday (its an auto trans)..im guessing it was bc it was really humind out..not sure? should i replace the spark plugs? and/or trans fluid? (not sure y the check engine light came on..i use only premium gas and every so often use fuel management cleaner in the gas as well) car only has 37k on it..maybe a sensor somewhere?
