Help! What is this under my car?

I was cleaning out my garage today and I noticed something hanging down from my 06 TL. Upon further inspection, it's a cloth of some sort, red, with a texture.

1. What the hell is this?

2. Should it be there?

3. Would I do harm in removing said cloth?

I gave the cloth a pull and some of it unworked a little. It seems to be fairly stuck however between a piece of plastic and whatever is down there.

Thoughts?

should be ok to remove it, unless it was used in some kind of botched job somewhere.

Sure enough, it came out with a little bit of effort. It ended up being someone's shop rag. I just had new tires put on a few weeks ago, so I'm wondering if someone didn't jam it up in there somehow.

I appreciate the reply!

1. What the hell is this? - Looks like a shop rag or towel.

2. Should it be there? - Absolutely not.

3. Would I do harm in removing said cloth? - I don't believe so.

Did you recently have your car in for service or an oil change somewhere?

same here.

guess some cars come normal with shop rags hanging all over the place.

At first it reminded me of an incident where my friend used a red shop rag as his oil cap.

Low and behold, an announcement was made over the PA system that his car was on fire. This was back in high school
