HELP! Rasp maybe???
HELP! Rasp maybe???
Hi all,
I have just installed the RV6 pcd and j pipe combo and got some issues. Above 3k there seems to be a rasp and hissing kinda sound when revving it. When driving the car, it also has this hissing sound too almost like a turbo spooling up. I'm not sure if the hissing will go away as time goes on since it only has been 2 days since the install. I did double and triple check all bolts as well. All is tight. I will capture a video and also post it up. Any inputs are greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you have an exhaust leak. Yes, I know you checked everything. Here is what I would do. I would have an assistant under the vehicle and someone else at the back of the car with some heavy wadding of rags. With the car running, apply some pressure at the end of the exhaust (blocking the exhaust somewhat). Check with the guy under the car to see if he can now find the exhaust leak.
Trying to find an even smaller exhaust leak, we would (with the engine off) add about three of four tablespoons of automatic transmission fluid into the throttle. Start the car and follow the same procedure as above. The transmission fluid will cause a heavy white smoke to come out of the exhaust for about 15 seconds and should make finding even a small exhaust leak possible.
If you have access to a smoke machine you can do the above with it instead of the ATF. You can purchase a Motorvac cool smoke machine at Walmart for $900.
