Help...possible power steering failure

Recently my 2004 TL has been making a high pitch noise when I start up the car. It changes pitch as I rev up the engine. The noise sounds like it is coming from the power steering pump. About a month ago I replaced the o-ring on the power steering pump but the noise has not gone away. Any suggestions what it could be?

Is there sufficient psf in the res?

also high pitch or whine / moan? A high pitch noise is more likely belt related.

It is a high pitch whine. If it is the belt do you know how much it would cost to repair/replace?

Ive noticed acura ps pumps are very delicate. Ive had a few people come in with no Ps fluid (due to a leak or something) and they had drivin it only a short distance and they needed a new pump. Everything still works fine, just really loud.

I have the same problem. Does yours go away after about 5 min and only happen in the morning? I've stopped caring as nothing seems to be affected.

Yes, usually after the car warms up the noise goes away. I want to get it fixed but I just wanted to get some information first so I can call him out if my mechanic says it will cost $1,000 to fix.

There is a TSB for this problem.

The rubber O ring on the high pressure lines deteriorates after time allowing air to pass by. Open up the top of your power steering resevoir and see if there are bubbles when someone else turns the wheel.

Just do a search for TSB and power steering.

Here is the TSB from Acura.

Whoops. Sorry. I was in a hurry at work.

The whole hose could be bad possibly?

Shit probably needs to be replaced. Noise has been going on with my car for quite some time and I haven't noticed any change in driveability. Until it stops working I can live with the noise in the morning.

roughly $600 depending on the shop with part markup.. buy the pump & diy or call some shops around, tell them you have the pump & just need an R&R.

FYI - I took it to my mechanic and he said it was the PS Tensioner. The part costed $60 but labor was $300. Well worth it to no longer hear the annoying whine!! Thanks everyone for your help with this!
