help handling mechanic's BS

i took my car into the shop for some serious creeking when turning at slow speeds. I would hear it and even feel it in the steering wheel. I was thinking ball joint or bushings. He tells me rack and pinion and me trusting his professional opinion allowed it to happen. over 500 dollars later i have a new rack and pinion and nothing has changed.

how should i go abut handling this? he jipped me out of alot of money and my problem is not fixed. What can I do? i dont have much experience dealing with mechanics i have done most of the work myself so far.

not much you can do to be honest. when you take it to a mechanic thats the risk you take, that you are trusting his diagnosis.
you cant ask for your money back since he did do the labor and gave you a new rack and pinion.
however, a good mechanic would understand his error and work with you to continue diagnosing the problem, and possibly give you a discount on any more work. or you can find a new mechanic altogether

$500 for a new rack and pinion is a great price though. even if you didnt need one, its probably a good idea anyways if you have a lot of miles

prolly a bad axle/s. tell him he needs to fix the creaking and that you expect him to do the labor for free and provide the parts at cost.

You can remind him of:

BBB
Angie's List
Attorney General's office
