Help-caliper bolt torque Type S

Own a 2008 acura tl type s and in middle of putting brake pads and car back together. For the front brembos it states 125 ft lbs to torque caliper bolts. There is no way. Anyone have a correct torque for these.

It is 125 lb-ft or 170 N-m.

Why isn't that correct? I just did mine a few weeks ago and got it torqued to 125 lb-ft just fine.

They are 14mm bolts, probably class 10 or so. You need to torque them that high or they won't have the right preload and might back right out.

Link to Torque Chart Example shows up to 136 lb ft

Hey man,
I just had to replace both Brembos on my TL, and i thought the 125 ft/lbs. was WAY too much. So i tightened them as much as i thought safe. Hesistant because i didn't want to strip the caliper (steel hardened bolt thru a aluminum caliper doesn't bode well for over tightening). Checked on it a few days later, and the bolts were loose. Don't ask me how, but all 4 were loose. So, I broke out the torque wrench, blue lock tite, and cranked it up to 125. So far so good, definitely a safe number.

it happens because fasteners that aren't preloaded correctly (with the right torque) will experience greater loads. If it's preloaded right, then the interface between the different parts held by the bolt will cooperate to distribute forces. if not, the bolt takes all the stress and it will loosen

I have to chuckle at this thread. Screw the Service Manual and the Acura Engineers. The average Joe Acura owner knows much better.

I've done mine 3 or 4 times. Torqued to the 125 lb-ft spec each time. No issues .... yet.

Some do indeed report stripping the aluminum threads when un-doing those bolts.
