heated seat question??

I have a 08 tl type s my question is the driver side heated seat heats the back and bottom of the seat and the passenger side only heats the bottom of the seat. Is this the way it is suposed to be or is there something wrong with the passenger seat?

welcome to the forum
Much operational info on your car can be found in the owner manual
Unless they changed what they have done since 1999:
the passenger side gets no back heat due to side airbag sensor issues and occupant position detection system.
It also will light up a warning when passenger sits out of position and would be injured by airbag, and it you sit a briefcase or even a bottle of water on the seat- it will trigger that warning
check the book to be sure

^^

As usual, right on target. Acura has not changed this. That's how it is my '02 and in my '07. I am certain the '08 is the same.

I believe 01tl4tl is right: there are computer sensors that take up the space in the back/side of the passenger seat. It could be that the heater system would also interfere with their operation so there isn't a heating element in the seat back on the passenger side. Here is the best I could find in the manual looking for 60 seconds

Funny, my wife bitches about its absence too.

If you get a yellow light that flashes for just a second or stays on and may say Side Airbag,
thats the system I mean- if the occupant detector thinks weight in the seat bottem and seat back do not correlate- the computer thinks passenger is leaning to the side or to the front and would be severely injured if the airbag deployed- so its a temporary system override
