Headliner falling down?

Hey guys, kinda new, love the car 2004 TL NAVI 6mt.

Just took it in for some warranty work. It wouldn't pass inspection!! Turned out to be 3 bad sensors. But the thing that really got me was the headliner falling down. Anyone else had this? Seems really odd to me and something you only see in much older cars. They replaced the headliner for free but just curious to see if anyone else had this problem?

Yes. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon. I think there was even a TSB about it. I got a new one, too.

There's a TSB here https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...7&postcount=13

And you can check out these threads in the 3G Garage. I fixed mine almost two years ago and it still is where it should be.

If you open the sunroof and then look into the sunroof from the front, it is the part that runs under the sunroof. There are 3 velcro fasteners, and what happens is the top piece of velcro comes loose from the metal spring steel bar running from door to door, and this lets the headliner sag. It is usually only an inch or two, unless you keep your sunroof open and go over 100mph, but enough to bother even the most insensitive owner.

I should have clarified that, my headliner actually came loose from the material it is bonded to...i.e. the fabric seperated from rigid headliner that it is bonded too. This happened to me in the rear of the car, near the 3rd brake light. I also had the problem up by the sunroof, but totally different situation. In that situation the entire top of the headliner falls down, not the fabric seperation.

I had the headliner issue as well. The sag was at the rear of the moonroof and around the third brake light... Dealer tried once to fix the issues and the second time around they just replaced the entire headliner...

I am having this problem on the third brake light only for now, the question I have is, what do they do differently that changes the fasteners, so this doesnt happen again.

my car has 10k miles on it, I had this problem on my 1990 buick when it was like 10 yrs old and had 180k miles, so this is a bit of a disappointment from honda.

When I took the car in the first time, my dealer said that they used stronger adhesive and additional Velcro to hold up the headliner. They also added a foam strip around the third brake light to stop the red light from coming thru which was very visible at night. These fixes did not correct the problems and my dealer ended up replacing the entire headliner a week later...

well they are telling me over the phone now that they will re glue the liner, so I will just see how long that lasts............

I think the heat from the light is causing the glue to become soft and lose its adhesive properties. That is why in most cases it probably comes lose over there. I told them I want new headliner but they said they cant do that now. I also told them I want to reskin my drivers seat, and get new bump stops on the shocks, and maybe new tires.

Lets see how it goes, I am dropping off the car today after work. How long does it take? cause I need the car for the weekend, I hope they dont tear it apart and not have it done in time.
