So this has been an issue on my 04 TL since Christmas day of 2012. My headlights will work (most of the time) when I turn the car on and the switch. Also, they have started to flicker for about a second or two before lighting up. However, if I were to turn the switch off, or to parking lights only, and turn em back on, they will not work (or either one or the other will work intermittently). Also, when I turn the switch off, I can hear a "clunk" noise from under the driver side hood, where the fuses/relays are located. Can anyone relate to these symptoms?

I replaced the headlight switch, but that did not resolve it. I am assuming this may be a bad ballast and/or ignitor or relay, but not sure which one. If they both work at first, how could that be the issue? I dont want to replace all these parts for $300-$400 for no solution!

The clunk noise you are hearing is normal. It also makes that noise when you turn your high-beams on. As for the other problem, my guess would be the ballasts?

 

you can switch between sides to determine which one is bad

 

New OEM ballasts are $200 a piece. Any way I could find some used ones on the Black Market?

Are you using OEM bulbs or aftermarket?

 

I bought the car completely factory. One day I just noticed that they stopped working. I tested the bulbs already and both work fine. When I turn them on the first try they work (except for the internal fogs), but if I turn them off then on, they will not. Ignitor?

JNC I just want this problem resolved so I can turn them into you and get my modded ones! ughh
