Headlight out...have questions.

I knowticed my drivers side headlight is out and i have a couple questions..

1.) what is the best replacement bulb? i figure ill do both
2.) how do i get to the bulb? do i have to remove the bumper??
3.) would it most likely be a burnt out bulb or do you think the ballast went bad? and is there a way to tell.

thanks for your help, this car is pissing me off

Its best to replace both at the same time. I like the OEM bulbs but there's tons of discussion here on others. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/diy-hid-bulb-change-w-o-bumper-removal-3g-garage-g-004-a-598853/

1. any D2S bulb will work, if you have the $ get a good quality bulb like philips or osram. there are cheap ddm or china bulbs available and it seems tempting but those are inferior
2. to do it right, take off bumper and headlights, dont be lazy.

I put new Osram CBI bulbs on my car last weekend. The lights are awesome, but for me, taking off the bumper and headlights was a PITA.

Yea that's going to keep happening for bit until it goes out completely. I had the same issue last year changed out the ballast and bulb's but for some reason one of my lights keeps turning white after I bought the 6k ones.. So my advice is try the bulb's first since it's cheaper than the ballast. Bumper isn't that bad just the stupid plastic pieces break quick ..

You will have to check. It will be either the ballast or the igniter. The igniter is literally the headlight socket. (assuming that power and ground are both present at the connector to the ballast)

If I didn't have Osram CBI, would've went with Morimoto 5k. Many good comments about it.

Taking out the bumper is totally waste of time, if you ask me. Could replace them by opening inner fenders (front of the tires)

Also can someone correct me on this. I know they are bulb too but does a xenon bulb go out directly like normal bulbs?
I experienced 2 bulbs going out but it happed slowly. First color turns the pinkish and then brightness goes down...

cipdagr3at, where did you buy the ballast?
Or anyone know how much is our stock oem ballast?
Just wanted to know

sharksbreath or jon2000 can you post a picture of what the headlight color looks like. i currently have a headlight that has lost some color and will be replacing them soon. I was told to check out the morimoto's and was curious to see the color of the 5k, trying to figure out what ones to go with. 5k or 6k thanks!

Don't mean to thread jack, I have a 04 TL and I'm liking y'alls reviews on the mirimoto 5000k bulbs, one question, 35w or 50w? Which one do I chose? how would/should I know? Will they both work, is it a preference?

Thanks in advance guys!

I honestly wouldn't deal with Umnitza, their customer service is terrible. I ordered a pair of Orion V2 angel eyes from them, they went out on me after a few months. They require a deposit till you send back the deffected unit. The deposit only lasts for a month. If you go past the month it's voided. Stick with TRS (The Retrofit Source) You will definitely not be disappointed with the products and the customer service is excellent!

Our cars stock take 35w D2S bulbs. If you want 50w, you will have to get 50w bulbs along with 50w ballasts to accomodate.

It's always good to buy bulbs as a pair just for that reason. HID bulbs color shift as they get older, so it's nice to have them shift together as opposed to one being bluer than the other

Just went out and snapped a few pics for you in the driveway. It was soooo cold out so I didn't have time to fuss around too much. Morimoto 5K headlight bulbs (using ZKW-R lenses) and Morimoto 5K fog light bulbs

I have a few more pics at: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0#post14297610

Just did this last night and there is plenty of access if you pull the fender wall back. I also disconnected the battery for obvious reasons. One thing to note is that halogen housing unit has a torx 20 tamper proof screw, not a regular torx screw. The tamper proof screw has a pin in the middle. I was doing it in the garage late last night and until i put a flashlight on it i had no idea.

Back to the original post though, it sounds like your ballast.
