HandFreeLink displaying "booting up"

Hello all,

I've searched, but couldn't find an answer. Recently, my HFL stopped working. The buttons on the dash don't light up (although I think those stopped working before the actual unit failed) and when you go into the MID to look at Handsfree, it just displays "BOOTING UP". What could be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Two possibilities- it's an intermittent glitch and will go away when you restart the car tomorrow, or the HFL will need to be replaced.

FWIW, I had this happen within 6 months of getting the car new-- the glitch went away the next day the first time. The glitch occurred a couple-three times more in the next year or so, but would go disappear on the next ignition cycle. I never brought the car in for warranty service since the HFL was working fine after each glitch. The problem has not recurred for a couple-three years since and the HFL worked/works perfectly.

It def. isn't intermittent. It's been like this for about 2 weeks now. I have an extended warranty...think it's covered?

Hopefully it is, it's an expensive repair. The part is about $600 alone.

sounds like maybe someone before you upgraded the navi dvd and then swapped it for an older version upon trading the car in? check on what version dvd is in the drive vs. what should have came with the car....in the 'hidden' setup menu you can do a "forced download" which is a possible solution if this is indeed the case, which will force the navi to sync up with the dvd downgrade...however if you choose to go that route, research the forced download function first as it could potentially screw it up even more

edit: I think i misread what you initially said, the error pops up only after you press the HFL button?

yes. it only comes up when I hit the HFL button. It will say booting and then nothing happens. I can't even try to pair my phone up.

Alright guys, just updating in case people in the future have this issue. I had my B1 service done today and asked them to check out the HFL. The unit itself is bad. It will be replaced under warranty...all I have to pay is the $100 deductible.

That's good. I'm just reading this thread and I had bout my 04 used almost two years now. About a week after I bought it "as is" I had messed around too many times with it trying to set it up, and it froze during setup! I was pissed and nothing worked, radio, navi...took it to the dealer and they ended up replacing my HFL unit becasue it was bad for free! The car had an extended warrenty from the previous owner, however I bought it from a dealer and it was never transfered. I guess I got lucky.
