Hand brake / Emergency brake issue

Hi fellow AZiners, got an issue with my Hand brake cable. Car is an 07 Type s with 51K and my handbrake cable seized on the passenger side. The car is a AT but i used the handbrake all the time, until now, because it locked the wheel. I was able to loosen the cable by pulling on it, the wheel turned but was very slow. Got to my friendds place took out the rotor and saw that the cable was seized ands we tried to grease it but it wasn't letting go. so we hammer the brakes to loosen them. My friend a mecanic told me the Hand brake cable is shot.

My question is is it normal that at 50k the cable goes, and only on one side? has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for your input

Not normal but not unexpected in a climate like yours where I'm assuming you deal with snow and salt on the road. Once you replace the cable and housing, make sure to use a good grease that will keep moisture out of the cable housing.

How are the shoes? The factory doesn't give you much material to wear in the first place. Any signs that it may have been dragging for a while?

Thanks I Hate Cars for the reply- Actually the shoes are almost all worn on the same side, so i beleive it has been dragging for a while, also i changed my rotors in the back and i saw the inside of the old rotor has been glazed. Is there a DIY to change the cables and housing...?
