Guys running HID's in lower fogs, need help

I can make a short video if needed showing the problem but I've noticed the light seems to jump around inside the housing. You can see the beam movin up and down on the ground also. It does it with the car stopped so its not a vibration

Only thing I can think of is that the depo lights have a small circle metal shield or holder inside and the hid's are laying on them or hitting them. I'm not sure though

i could be wrong tho, i'm a bit rusty on my black book knowledge.

make sure they are fully snapped in place and not just shoved in there. you'll be able to see if the bulb is touching the housing on the inside of the fogs.

unfortunately, that's just ebay quality. my ebay HID kit does the same thing and so does my friend's. he got his off ebay as well. but my other two cars with the same kit don't have these issues.

is yours a Xentec?

It's the kit, this shouldn't happen. If you want a cheap yet way more reliable kit try DDM... everyone says they're not that great but I installed one on my friends Mazda 3 and its been running for months now without a single problem.

how much are these cheap kits?
like 50 dollars a pop?
and if they go out?

I just dropped coin on an HID Kit from theretrofitsource for my KIA.
I understand the allure of cheap kits...but I didnt want to take those chances!!

Hope you get your foglights sorted out!!

Just the thread I was searching for - where did you find your DDM HID fog kit shark?

Edit: I see now, DDM Tuning. Did you go with 35 or 55w?

Their switchbacks are much cheaper than Vleds even with the 35% off - any experience with them?

35w, JJH.

and no i only have experience with their fogs. i did get my switchbacks from vleds a few years ago, during a promotional sale...otherwise i try and stay away from vleds. their prices are a bit too high for me.

Made a vid showing the light inside the metal housing. Looks like its resting on it. Think moving it a little will help or is it just the lights them self

well it shouldnt be resting on anything. it should be locked in place, just like your factory lights were.

I might have to try and bend that metal piece straight so the light isn't resting on it

Hey OP - hate to say it but I'm 99% sure it's your ballasts. I had a new spare Xentec kit that I put in the fogs of my 2008 TL-S when I bought it in July. I noticed immediately that after the bulbs got up to temp the light pattern would "dance" around on the ground and you could see the arc in the bulb moving around. My buddy gave me back my old VVM HID kit from a previous car that he wasn't using. I installed the ballasts which fixed the problem. The Xentecs were slim digital plastic ballasts whereas the VVM's are much thicker and aluminum. I did the swap just before Christmas and it's still going strong. I'm pretty sure the light output is more concentrated and brighter now as well. I got looking at the bulbs and they looked like sh!t too so I went to retrofitsource and picked up new 5K H8 bulbs for the fogs ($40): http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...oducts_id=4118 and matching 5K D2S bulbs for the headlights ($45): http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...oducts_id=1250

Hope this helps.

Jon

It's your equipment. You got what you pay for pertaining to hid equipment. Get quality bulbs and ballasts from the retrofit source and I can almost guarantee that fixes your problem.
