2005 TL Automatic


I noticed today that my Green "Drive" light started blinking. I put the vehicle into manual mode and into "L" as well as all other modes and the Green "drive" light was still blinking.


I shut the vehicle off and turned it back on and it went away. No CEL lights came on.


I do not notice any problems with the transmission. It shifts smoothly while driving. The other day when I shifted my vehicle from park to reverse I felt a hard irregular shift from the transmission.


What could be causing this?

I recently acquired this vehicle. It has 195,000 miles on it.


The transmission fluid at 183,000 miles was erroneously replaced at an Acura Dealership and was never done before.


Since the transmission fluid was replaced at 183,000 miles and the vehicle has 195,000 miles on it I was thinking of doing a complete 3x3 drain and refill of the transmission fluid again for good measure.

Aside from the blinking light issue, what can I do to prevent transmission failure due to the high mileage?

Gulp... the flashing D light is not good, but doesn't mean its toast.

There are 3 pressure switches on your tranny that most folks replace.

What type of fluid was used when you did the fluid change? People say to stay away from honda fluid.

The fluid was changed with Acura fluid. I just checked the ATF fluid level and its 1/2 inch above the fill line. The dealer over filled it. I think this might be the problem.

There are 2 pressure switches on the 05 5AT TL. 3 on 07-08.


Flashing D is only one of the signs. Someone needs to retrieve the DTC with an HDS.

I replaced both switches, transmission filter and did a 1x3 transmission fluid change.


There were a lot of metal shavings on the magnetic part of the transmission bolt and the transmission filter was completely black/dirty. The transmission fluid was thick and black.

The previous owner did a 1x3 transmission fluid change at 183,034 at Acura Dealership, I just did the 1x3 at 195,048. Due to the condition of the fluid and previous transmission fluid change, is this normal?


I will continue to do a 1x3 after every oil change till the fluid comes out red.

61-1 Battery Voltage Malfunction
86-1 Controller Area Network Relation Malfunction (unknown cause).


The 61-1 Battery Voltage Malfunction is due to bad battery wiring/connectors. Could this also be causing the transmission problems -- throwing the sensors off?


The reason I am asking is when I had bad battery cables on a previous 04 TL, it disabled my ABS, VSA and caused my 02 sensors to malfunction. After I replaced the battery cables, all these issues went away.

Thick black ATF 12k miles after an ATF service isn't normal for a regularly serviced transmission.. But these trannys should be serviced every 15k. So if last time they only did a 1x3 and that was its first service, then you'd still have roughly 6qts of very dirty fluid.

Whatever the case, do NOT do a complete 3x3 at this point. Definitely do the 1x3's periodically so the transmission has a chance to adjust to the cleaner fluid.

at times but not all the time my vehicle shifts hard into 3rd gear.

Shop foreman at acura tells me to ONLY use genuine acura trans fluid. When the drive light is flashing it may just need a new trans fluid filter. Dirty filter makes low pressure.

My D5 light started flashing just a few min back.
I had just done the Transmission Shift Solenoid (the dual-linear solenoid) filters clean and replace over the weekend.
When I removed to battery and the battery plate to do that I also noticed that a ground cable from near that solenoid to the acura 3.2 TL chassis was cut. So I fixed that too with a new ground 4 Gauge cable.

Despite doing both these changes, I noticed that my transmission is still not shifting smooth. The one additional difference i do see now is that the D5 light is blinking.

I had changed the ATF just a few months back at an Acura Dealership, I would have thought that they would have changed the transmission filter too at the time of changing the fluid.

Any thoughts suggestions from the experts on this forum welcome
