anyone know exactly where it states on the Greddy website that the Greddy exhaust system is legal? i got a ticket about a week ago for it and i need to print it out to fight the ticket because the cop said.."if i here it, your getting a ticket for it" meanwhile he was tail gating me for a good 2 miles before pulling me over and waiting til i hit the gas going up a hill to write me up for it then he said i looked like a street racer and was considering towing my car - he was just mad i had a TL and he had a cop car lol

NY law states:
Section 375. Equipment.
Subsection 31. Mufflers and exhaust systems. Prevention of noise.
Every motor vehicle, operated or driven upon the highways of the state, shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler and exhaust system in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise and no such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cut-out, bypass, or similar device.
No person shall modify the muffler or exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor or exhaust system of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler or exhaust system originally installed on the vehicle and such original muffler and exhaust system shall comply with all the requirements of this section.
A muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle plates, or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, and effective in reducing noise.
An exhaust system is a series of mechanical devices for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and expelling it into the atmosphere.
A.No person shall operate or cause to be operated any motor vehicle in such a manner that the sound level emitted therefrom exceeds eighty (80) dB(A) either: (1)At a distance of twenty-five (25) feet or more from the path of the vehicle when operated on a public street or sidewalk or in a public park or other public place; or(2)At or beyond the property line when operated on private property. This subsection shall not apply to those motor vehicles being operated upon a public street to which § 386 of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law applies.
Moral of the story:
1. Know your areas exhaust laws if you dont want a problem
2. Dont admit you know your exhaust is illegal or modified to the cop. No guarantees that this will keep you out of a ticket, but it cant hurt.
Cliffs:If you modify your exhaust and it is louder than OEM, It is illegal in NYS bottom line, no way around it, PERIOD.

yea in NYS it's actually 85dB i'm pretty sure, though i could be wrong it's been awhile since i've looked at that rule.
but generally the way it's worded for aka "if the cop wants to be a dick, he can cite you for loud exhaust as long as it's clearly modified"...
another of the many reasons i opted for stock tips welded on my custom set up... though it's been a REALLY long time since i've heard of a cop being that much of a dick, what happened?

Greddy disclaimer:
Check your state and local laws regarding the use of any performance product.
Cop had a bad day. Some will look for any violation just to write a ticket which is more income for the town/city, but it probably is justified.
Not same situation, but a friend of mine has a Boss Hog bike, complete as it came from the factory with no mods. He was ticketed $300 for loud exhaust, and was told if he was caught again it would be $1000.
It is loud and if you don't know a Boss Hog, it's a bike with a 502 ci Chevy engine 502 HP.
