Glade Plugin Melted Interior Paint?

This one has TOTALLY PERPLEXED me. I have no idea how this happened and here, the highest temp was only 65 last saturday. I cleaned my far for the first time in months on that day... I bought a new glade car plugin (ive been using them for months) and put in on that night. that next day, i took off the plug in to wipe off the whole buttons/dash and this is what i saw. anyone give some insight on how this happened? And anyway to repair it? Could it be the plugin's fault? i mean, none of it spilled, etc, never had this problem with the other like 5 plugins ive gone through and i'm just pissed that it happened. i take good care of her too...

Its so small but you can feel the paint and at night, you can see red light coming from the back... ugh anyone go through this? i know its odd... and i dont wanna just put touch up paint or something cheap like that you know?

help?...

My guess is that the chemicals in the air freshener is the culprit. That's why I never use that crap.

air freshners like that are very bad for plastics. Honda had a service bulletin about damaged plastics and air fresher causing them, and that the air freshners should be placed away from them. Your only choice in fixing the buttons is buying new ones:

Be careful with the dash- its plastic is constantly outgassing- thats the stuff that coats the inside of the windshield all the time.
Open a window if you insist on using a prduct like that

A better constant air freshener is a ziplock type bag- the good strong one, and a few cottenballs with your favorite scent on them.
Coconut for that tropical blast when you open the door, or pine or whatever you like.
Leave the bag open a little when parked- toss it under the seat-
Close it when the smell is too much, open when extra clearing/covering needed

For instant smell destruction- not masking- Ozium -it will handle barf~

Vanilla from the kitchen smells like fresh baked cookies, but that always makes me hurry home--and then no cookies waiting!!

Men- ask a lady friend for help- if they ride with you let them pick one out for them and one for you and make them for you both..

looks like some of the chemical in the jar dripped out onto the button. As for right behind it where it was mounted that looks like it was rubbing a bit and caused the scratch on the dash. If you want a good air freshner, put a Bounce fabric softner sheet under each front seat. I do that all the time and I actually 2 under each seat. I change them every month when I do a deep interior cleaning to my cars.

Acura Service News April 2006:

Hanging Air Fresheners:
Bad News for Paint or Plastic

Seems everywhere you look these days you see
those cardboard air fresheners hanging from
rearview mirrors or dashboards. Sure, they make
your car’s or truck’s interior smell showroom fresh
or like a mountain meadow after a spring rain, but
they’ve got their dark side, too. The chemicals
used in these things just love to eat into any paint
or plastic they come in contact with.
Most air freshener brands actually state right on
their packages to avoid contact with any surface.
Vehicle owners need to take those words
seriously when using them. If any interior paint or
plastic gets damaged because of it, it’s a client-pay
repair. Such damage isn’t covered by warranty.

Unfortunately, you'll probably have to replace the dash part as well. Since it's chemical damage the only way you might be able to fix it is by sanding, and even then it's not likely to look seamless.

As for the button, the cover doesn't come separately so you do have to buy the whole assembly. I'm assuming the up/down/auto/mode buttons come together as one part.

Weirddd, I been using it for over a year now. Havent had issues. But i'm guessing it was properly colsed, causing the oil substance to leak out.

Sorryyyy, You could check salvage yards to see if they got those parts

yea ive used them for a year at least as well - thats why i was so reluctant to believe it was the plugin's fault... but whatever... the notice on the case wasnt big enough to notice until i saw the online warning...
