Gas Mileage
Gas Mileage
What kind of gas mileage do you guys get from your 08' TL Automatic? I'm averaging 15 in the city and double that on the highway.
Also, what type of gas do you guys use? I have only been running the highest they have (93 if it's there or 91). Can I put 89 without a detriment?
Gas tank size - how many gallons? I run to the gas light on, then fill it and the pump kicks off at 13 gallons but can stand there for five minutes and pump an additional 2+ gallons in slowly. According to the book, I should have 2.3 Gallons reserve.

I was going to link you to all the articles by searching google, but realized you could do it yourself...

The last one is about the gas tank, literally first hit. Read the first response... don't over fill it.

I did 400 miles in the last two days, and averaged 27mpg on the hilly freeway between Eugene and Medford Oregon. I think the elevation change is about 1500 feet. I don't think that's too bad.
running regular gas is not more cost effective than premium.
running regular will cost you more in the long run as its more prone to detonation among other things

but that has helped with the mpg I was at 18-19 after slowing down a bit I saw my mpg improved to 21-23
Where do these people come from, there should be a minimum iq requirement for posting on here. This has been gone over so many times before, over and over the same old shit and for some reason I still get surprised when people start talking about city/hwy % which is utterly useless and best of all to run 85!?!?! octane in a car with 11:1 compression designed for best power AND MPG on at least 91 octane. Then acting as if the manual gets so much better mpg when they're virtually the same. I don't know why I'm surprised anymore but I am.
If you realized how rediculous your first post sounded you probably would not want to continue bringing it up. Not to mention some of the worst advice followed since '04, about the time these questions were answered the first time.
I agree, you should not be here. I said "so much better mpg" not the 1mpg difference in the real world. Hurry up and cheerleader the other guys, I don't want to know why you call yourself bullseye lol. Post some more city and freeway % estimates lol. I can make fun of you openly and you don't have the brain to figure out why.
Actually in the real world I can get more than 1mpg on a a manual Tl Than a auto. I Guess your IQ wont comprehend this, but yeah I can and you can't. Yeah
I can see why you hate cars. Oh btw where can one get 85 octane? Just curious

So you can get better mileage in your manual than some random 5at? Congrats. I can get better mileage than some manuals in my auto. I feel like I'm arguing with my 5 yr old niece. It's cute because she's supposed to have the intelligence of a 5 yr old. You still don't understand why you sound so rediculous and one poster tried to help you but it went right over your head.
So now that we're done with the blanket statements and I'm almost done laughing at you, would a manual with an average speed of 25mph get better mileage than a 5at with an average speed of 55mph?
Do you have any idea why a manual tends to get slightly better mileage and what advancements in the past decade have made them extremely close in mpg?
Once you can answer those two questions you'll realize how rediculous you sound.
Im sorry are u offended sir. Usually childish remarks are the
First sign. We are talking about The Tl 3G tl here right not
Some auto 7spd clutch cars so new advancement in tech have nothing to do with the topic in hand. Again u got lost there buddy. I understand

What are these "auto 7 speed clutch cars" you speak of?
You don't get off that easy by throwing nonsense out there. What advancements to the traditional automatic transmission such as the one found in the TL have made gas mileage close to its manual equivalent?
Again, would a manual with a 25mph average speed have better mpg than an auto with a 55mph average? It's unfortunate I have to specify but I'm talking about the same make and model one with a manual and one with an auto.
I'm trying to help you understand.
To those that replied with real answers - I appreciate it. Sorry to stir up such controversy.
On a side note, I think I might try 89 then 91 then 93 and compare how my mileage and performance does on each. I will let you guys know if interested. Being a pilot, I don't drive often - but when I do, it's to the same places.

whats with the argument? obviously the guy is new, let him have his thread, no need to bash and be douchebags
syco, ive read a few other threads about this and usually there is not much mpg difference when it comes to octane, usually about 1-3 difference. 91 octane is just recommended for the engine to function correctly.

Seriously man? If you're just going to bitch and moan about me reposting a topic that has been talked about, do it at work to coworkers or some crap - not on here. There is a reason you sit at a desk all day and have time to read these forums. Just let it be and let others post replies to my original questions.

What you have suggested has already been done. The answers are already out there. Do it if you wish but this is knowledge that most people already know. If you want to educate yourself, search.
Nobody posted "real" answers, just misguided guesses.
You wanted an argument hence your smart ass bump so you got one.

So again, what improvements to the traditional automatic such as the one in the TL have nearly closed the gap on mpg between the auto and manual.
Would a manual TL with a 25mph average speed have better mpg than an auto TL with a 55mph average.
You wanted to take on the role of the smart guy, answer these two questions accurately and you'll understand why you're full of it.
