Have an 05 TL I just bought for school a couple weeks ago and the gas tank is not filling properly. Went to fill up this morning with 17 miles til empty on the dash computer and it only filled up 13.5 gallons. Also noticed a lingering smell of gas inside the interior after she's been sitting for over 12 hours. The computer is working because when I filled up prior the DTE was 389 miles and I averaged 28mpg (398/28=13.9gallons of fuel used)

Any suggestions? Maybe a bad EVAP or fuel canister?

gas tank is working correctly, as it's a 17 gallon tank.....but the gas warning light will come on early, as a dummy proof way not to run empty..
the light will come on when there's 3 or 4 gallons left in the tank

 

17 gallons - 13.5 gallons = 3.5 gallons still in tank

The obvious answer is to keep pumping until gasoline is pouring out

 

The light comes on in my 3G when there's 4 - 4.5 gallons left...
