Front motor mount cracked

is there a temporary fix for the front motor mount? I just need more time just to avoid going to the dealer and being ripped off

How about a more permanent fix; take your car to a local shop to have the motor mount replaced.

no. full replacement is needed.
if the front one is gone, you can bet the side is gone too. the side is the first one to go, then the front.

if you keep driving on broken mounts, you could possibly destroy the rear one too. then, if you continue to drive, you could destroy other mounts too.

and dont go to the dealer. have an independent mechanic do the work. or do it yourself.
you can also buy cheaper OEM-LIke mounts from rockauto.com
and if you wanted to go stiffer aftermarket ones, you can find them cheaper than OEM at Shop Online | Excelerate Performance

no. the dealer marks up labor and parts.

an indie mechanic WANTS your business, well...some do. gotta call around and ask...or if you know local friends that have had work performed... etc

if you keep driving on broken mounts for an extended period of time, you might screw up other things too since the engine, transmission, etc. rely on all those components being properly aligned against other.

+1 with this. Get it off rockauto and get the side mount as well even if its not broken yet. then take them to any mechanic. Should be less than 1h of labour max for both. I do not recommend going stiffer as you might get vibration.

Which brand from RockAuto would you suggest?

that's what I was wondering too.

I looked up the reviews on Amazon and they are not that good for any of the aftermarket one's. Premature failure, vibrations, etc

the OEM's werent that great either.....i'm sure every one of us had the OEM's prematurely give out.
my car only had 60k miles on it when i changed them out....side and front were decimated..rear was still in GREAT condition

which is due from design. the design of the mounts are WEAK. why in the world would some one invent these kinds of mounts???
it's designed where the middle is floating. no chit that shits going to break in the middle.

Civics with 90hp have better designed mounts than we do.

I went with XLR8 designed motor mounts. they are designed differently and are more robust. however, overtime they can still donut as well.

thats why i was hoping after all these years someone would have improved the design a little or had better materials. One of these aftermarket guys could be minting money.

Yeah, i don't see that the aftermarket are a whole lot worse than the OEM. Just gambling. I guess anything is better than a failed mount.

There's a bunch of ebay sellers offering crazy 5 to 10 year warranties on these mounts, but i'm skeptical they'll honor them.

It would be nice if they come out with a version for those of us are looking for version that focuses on comfort, noise, longevity instead of performance.

dont know if you can have your cake and eat it too.
upgrading to polyurathane is the very essence of keeping things tighter for performance.

OEM is designed that way for comfort.

My opinion is go with OEM. Most people would see issues at about 80k+ miles, which is still a pretty long life for a rubber part that goes through a ton of heat cycles. Granted, it's not the greatest, but it's decent enough.

Not sure exactly what year or transmission your car is, but I know on the 04-06, the front and rear mounts are vacuum controlled. Without the vacuum mounts, you will have considerably more vibrations at idle. My front mount vacuum line was disconnected when replaced by the dealer before I got the car. When I got the vacuum line back on, vibrations at idle went down, noticeably.

A lot of people on the forums have had various issues with aftermarket mounts as well.

If you don't want issues, go with OEM.

I need the front and side motor mounts. I looked at rockauto.com and it is way cheaper than it is on acuraoemparts.com. Is there any reason for that?

Of course! OEM parts sold at the stealership are very often rip-offs.

Sometimes you can go aftermarket, sometimes you can't. Motor mounts are one of those "sometimes you can." I did.

Anyone know a price range I should be look out for with labor, for both the front and side mount if I already bought the parts. Trying to pay the right price not the overrated ones and I know they differ. Any help would be appreciated.

I just looked at the invoice from the dealer for the work they did prior to me buying the car. They did both the front and side mount, total for parts and labor was $440.54.

Labor was $200. So I would say anything under $200 for labor and you're doing well.

I just found a mechanic who said he'll do it for $120 because he has done it before and said its an easy fix. Thanks though.
