Front Left Wheel Noise (not typical brake stuff)

Ok guys this is driving me crazy!

Vehicle: ’05 TL Automatic

Symptoms: Front left wheel intermittent metallic rubbing noise. I can make it happen on a hard right turn, but sometimes happens intermittently when going straight.

History: Brake pads and rotor are new (all greased). I have had them off 20 times. Eliminated the brake pad retailer clips rubbing and the splash guard. Removed the caliper mount. The mount that bolts directly to the hub and observed rub marks on the top inboard portion (not severe, barely detectable). The rotor is contacting the caliper mount evidently. I can detect no play in the bearing when trying to move wheel when jacked up. Seems like something is letting the hub move far enough so that the rotor is contacting the caliper bracket. Anyone have a clue. I suspect front bearing, but it seems ok.

I’ve searched for 20 minutes on here with no clear solution.

Thanks
Rob

Dust shield rubbing. Remove the front tires and push back on the dust shield. Go out for another road test and see if the noise went away. I know this is your issue.

I have my car in the shop right this moment for exactly the same noise OP. They called back and tell me its coming from the brakes. I just replaced the brakes a few months ago with stoptech gear, so I knew that wasn't the answer. Where is this dust shield at so I can try to break it the hell off or bend it back out of the way...

It's right behind the rotor. Impossible to miss...
