Front Cigarette lighter problem
Front Cigarette lighter problem
Hey acurazine, I have recently joined on here after lurking for a couple months and figured this is the best place to find out whats wrong with my front cigarette lighter..
Simple issue...my front cigarette lighter has no power, yes I checked the fuse and its all good. The center console port is working fine, just the front isn't.
What else could not be stopping power to the port? Since I'm going to strip down the dash to replace the climate control lights with leds cuz of blown lights. Is there anything i should check up on while I'm in there?
Oh, its an 05 tl..and yes I did use the search before posting.
thanks

Connector not plugged in?
Bad cigarette lighter?
Have you checked power on that spot with a multimeter?
If the console is taken apart there is a female two prong connector that connects to the backside of that accessory slot.
If the one in the arm rest works the other one should work, unless its unplugged on the back-side of the storage cubbies.
If you pop the driver's & passenger's side aluminum trim off, remove a bunch of screws and slide the center console back a bit you can remove the interior panel that covers the side of the storage cubby area.
From here you can check that connector, check if for 12V when the key is in ACC. If its good on the wires just make sure the connector on the backside of the socket is plugged in all of the way.
An easier check before even going that far is to look and see if something plastic or some type of insulator has gotten into the inside of that socket by removing whatever is plugged in there, check it out with a light or something.
The center prong all of the way at the bottom of those sockets should be the positive side and the outside is the negative. If something is blocking the positive end thats your problem right there, maybe something just fell inside of it or its all gunked up and needs to be cleaned.
Use some isopropyl alcohol and a long q-tip to clean it out.
Otherwise have to check the backside of the socket to ensure its plugged in.
If one works, they both should work.
I suppose whatever you've got plugged in there might not be reaching deep enough inside to make contact as well, a multimeter will help figure that out if you check the center conductor for power.

One time in my hyundai, I used one of those 12v air pumps to inflate a flat tire. It plugged into the cig lighter. Well it stopped working, and the tire was full enough to drive somewhere to get it fixed so I figured I blew a fuse. When I got home, the fuse was not blown. After alot of head scratching and taking apart the center console, I found that the solder point on the cig lighter hot wire had melted apart! Ive never seen that happen before but I guess anything is possible.
