So I am having issues with my 2005 Acura Tl automatic base model. I start the car and put it in drive and the car doesn't move and when I get it gas it just revs. then I have to swipe it the manual and put it in second gear and it works and moves and all other gears work fine. This only happens once a while mostly on cold days. What could cause this? A sensor or my tranny dying?

Try changing the filter. Have had many cars in the past that when the fluid is thick and cold the flow is restricted by a clogged filter. Changed the filter, added fluid and most were fine, but sometimes..........
For a few dollars it's worth a try.

I would certainly check this...that really doesn't sound good. When I did my ATF flush, my filter was shot to hell, disintegrating and came out in multiple pieces. I don't think the shops I took it to ever replaced it.Originally Posted by Turbonut

Check and see if it pulls any codes, May be a faulty Gear Range Sensor. These may go bad and never send out a code causing very weird shifting issues, mine was acting up and the car would automatically shift by itself when manual mode was engaged through all gears. Never heard it causing no engagement for a gear but hey check it out, its 60 something bucks.
