Cool First Blog

I got a 2006 Tl A-spec recently. Automatic. 20 k miles. I have read most posts on here but I wanted to hear what people are doing about these problems with their cars.

First problem is the backfire one. When i floor the gas from start sometimes when the car switches to 2 nd gear I have gotten 2 backfires over a 4 month period. They are pretty loud but the car seems to run fine as well even just after. Is this the ratio of the tranny and the ecu not working in combination well together?

When I start my car in the morning sometimes and I live in nice weather it does knock every once in a while and does seem to idle fairly poor compared to my previous hondas.Better when its warm? Is this the low emissions crap or what?

There is also a sound that comes from my engine. It sounds like a pulley or kind of gurgling noise almost like the water pump. Wondered if anybody has this sound as well?

3 rd and not last the dreaded subwoofer rattle on the back deck. Do i really need to take out the whole back seat to fix it? Can I strengthen the back deck enough from the trunk to fix this rattle? Will the dealer fix it since I hear this problem is very popular?

I normally don't like anyone working on my car because they do such a shitty job.
I have ingreds number saved in my phone now just in case I take this to the dealer and they give me guff about it.

Thanks .

take it to the dealer, they will fix all the problems. The Back-fire esp. should be fixed, as this may be causing some damage to the cats.

all the dealer has to say is they can't find anything wrong with it. Is 2 backfires in 4 month normal? Anyone elses car do that ? What have other people done to fix the rattle in their back deck? remove whole seat?

If you are having backfire, change the gas station you use, also you do use premium fuel 91+ octane, right? If not, that is also the problem for the knocking as timing can only be reduced so much.

If you are using 91+ octane, I would recommend that you seafoam the car. If you look at the main 3G section, there is a really good thread on how to do it. This will clean out any dirty fuel injectors, clean out carbon deposits, get rid of any contaminants in the gas tank. This in turn will lead to a smoother idle, better MPG, no more knocking and better performance.

For the rear deck rattle, you have to remove the seat to fix it. Take it to the dealer and show them the problem, and tell them that it also does it over bumps, and that the subwoofer helps reproduce it when stationary. If they don't fix it, you can do it yourself, but its an involved process, you must remove the back seats and parts of the rear deck to foam it up.

Also if you car is idling poorly, the next time you go to acura, ask them if they car perform an ECU reset followed by the normal Idle learn procedue, it is fairly simple, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, then turn on the car, turn off everything, radio, A/C, accessories and such. Let the car idle for about 10 minutes, when the fan is running, do not include that time.

Also I should have been a better member and welcomed you to the acurazine community. Here you will find a wealth of info, and congrats on your purchase
