Finally fixed my "electrical problem"

Over the past few years, my 06 TL developed an electrical problem - the battery would die too quick. If I didn't drive the car every 3 days, it would die and I would need to jump start it. This got really annoying especially in the winter where it would only last for 2 days. I did just about everything you could think up of - switched the battery out ~5 times, check the alternator (just in case), run all sorts of electrical diagnostic tests at the dealer, pray to the acura gods - nothing. Finally when I went to get new speakers installed, a random mechanic noticed that bluetooth was on. In fact, it wasn't working but still draining power.... constantly, whether the car was being driven or parked. All he did was yank it and that's it. Fixed.

So I noticed a few people were having issues with bluetooth, if the same problem arises, you know what to do..... or you could always get it fixed for a bit more (I never really used it so I had the unit pulled).

yep, Vlad. it's a common occurrence, and the simple thing is to disconnect the HFL like you have done.

Good Job!

It is a fairly common problem, but I am honestly surprised at how many owners are happy to simply disable it. With all the hands free laws and/or the simple convenience of not having to dig your phone out of you pocket and hold it to your ear with you hand or shoulder - I'm just very surprised. Maybe it's just me, but pretty much everyone has a cell phone nowadays: why would you do without it???

Everyone knows texting and driving is the new rage, why would I want to drive safely with a Handsfree unit when I can look away from the road and text.

Just out of curiosity, how much is it?

I'd rather just get a bluetooth headset for my iphone which is better, cheaper, and more portable. However, the module for the TL would auto turn down the music (from what I remember) which is convenient

About $180-$230 depending on vendor and your TL's interior color (the HFL bezel for the parchment or camel interior is significantly more expensive than the one for black and gray interiors, IIRC).

What I would do is get the least expensive one based on the bezel color, then switch the new HFL module in the black plastic box to your existing bezel- it's held in with a few torx screws, and can be switched out very quickly. Save a few bucks in the process.
