Fighting this squealing noise
Hi all, ive been chasing this elusive "belt noise" for the past 3 weeks.
The search feature has been of most help during this time. Unfortunately, the noise is still present.
Basically, belt started to make a squeak noise so I replaced it with an Dayco Belt.
After a few days the noise resurfaced. So I inspected the pullies and noticed the idler was bad. I purchased a whole tensioner assembly from Acura since the original one wasnt holding tension properly.
When I start the car from sitting over night it begins to make a noise like the belt is slipping. If I turn on the A/C the noise becomes more noticeable. After a 5- 10 minute drive the noise goes away.
I've narrowed this stupid noise to around the crank pulley area. So I took a black marker and drew a line across the crank pulley in hopes that the pulley didnt separate from the outer ring. ( if thats the case then wouldnt I have issues with charging and A/C ? )
What im also thinking is the Dayco belt I bought is the problem. They didnt have the goodyear belt in stock so I settled for this one.( still waiting on my oem belt I ordered from DCH 3 weeks ago! )
Anyone have any experiences with Dayco belts?
Does this sound like a problem with the belt or the pulley?
Do I need to use a wire brush or steel wool and clean the crank pulley?
btw,..the crank pulley doesnt wobble at all. Alt, and a/c compressor pullies are good to.

ok, so the noise is still there.
Even better, I was able to borrow a friends lift and was able to trace this stupid noise to the half shaft shield.
Basically the hinge on the shield that is bolted down has broken around the bolt. This definitely looks like fun to fix. Hopefully I can find the needed part and get it replaced before the18th of june.
Its the bolt in the center of the pics
in this pic you can see the black things thats being held down by the bolt. That black thing is moving around / broken.
Which makes sense. The nose kept coming from around the crank pulley and this part sits behind the crank pulley above the stock j pipe?

So I was able to fix the problem.
I jacked up the car off the ground and was able to tighten the bolt.
Although a pain in the ass to access. I was not going to drop the exhaust to get to it.
So now no more noise!!!!!
bolt was really loose btw.

This is a very interesting post. Is this what the noise sounded like? I too have been fighting this issue. I have replaced the Power Steering O rings from black to orange.
Timing belt: Kit with the belt and new pulley.
Automatic Tensioner Pulley and the Idle pulley.
New Power steering fluid.
Serpentine Belt ( Good year gator)
