Fading Paint

Hey Guys,

I removed the underline felt material from my hood and regretfully threw it away. Ive noticed the hood is starting to fade slightly and I was thinking of ways to prevent it from getting worse besides going to the dealership and buying a new liner.

I have the cowl mod done but was thinking of putting a slight elevation on the rear of the hood just to add some extra ventilation. Do you think this would alleviate the issue? Any suggestions?

Paint on hood, roof and trunk lid will fade faster than any other area's of the car because of it's exposure to sunlight! I doubt that the heat is causing the fading compared to just the age of the car and whatnot.

All your car needs is a simple detailing! Polishing will remove the top layer of oxidized paint which causes the "faded" look. Always start with the least aggressive polish/compound and then work your way up to avoid using too harsh of a product! After all the paint on our cars is as thin as a sheet of paper!

Check out the wax and wax section!

^what he said.

it has nothing to do with the engine heat but more so from UV rays.

remember, waxing is important. keeping it protected from sun light will prolong the life of the paint

Unless your roof and trunk are faded too or treated differently.. Then it kind of narrows it down doesn't it .. Added internal heat.

^psh, the underhood blanket is a fire suppressor.

it comes down to taking care of the paint.

I've had my fire blanket removed for over two years now with 0 ill-effect observed on the paint. The blanket was removed due to the additional of an MDX mainfold spacer.

...I also use a QD weekly and use a machine application of paint correctors, clay bar, and synthetic wax bi annually. Seriously, it comes down to taking care of the paint.

If you need a replacement, you could always buy mine

That theory is correct... IF the fading is all over .. If just the hood then its another .. I'm not blowing smoke.. I'm well versed on paint reaction to UV and other issues.

If its more than just the hood the the pad isn't the issue. Your not in intense sun country but if your car hasn't been protected you "could"have fading . When is the last time you waxed the car? Do you do it regularly?
