Question Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar......

So I installed my AEM V1 intake in my 04 TL and now when I floor my car my Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar detector goes off and says "laser" it also happens sometimes when I honk my horn. I cant imagine whats causing this.

Any one else own one? or had something similar happen?

Thanks in advance

Yes. There are a couple of threads on this. Seems to have something to do with drive by wire, but no one knows for sure. It always falses with a laser alert, never any other.

Me too...

This happens to me with my Passport too. But is also happens with my Mom's V1 in her Lexus RX400H when you go WOT and my Dad with his Passport in his S 55 AMG when you hit the gas or the horn...So its not our car and its not just the Passport....Scares the absolute shit out of me when I nail the gas and get blasted with laser.

Yeah, my mom's Ferrari also does this...

I wonder how low you guys hang your radar detectors...

This could be your reason... The radar should be positioned as high as possible...Right at the border of the tint strip on the windshield; this way you will incresae your radar's range, plus it hides well from the outside.

PS The radar sensor must be below the tint strip.

just don't hang it too high, else it'll cover the laser sensor for the rear. In Cali, nothing can be hung on the windows.

i had the same problem with mine, i would hit the gas hard andit will beep and scare me also.. but from what i herd is that since the blue tooth is right next to the sun roof the blue tooth is sending false alerts to the radar which makes it go off.. you have to put the radar on the left side of the windshild in the cornor. but i sold mine thinking it sucked but i guess it didnt.. if someone trys this and it works please let me know..

I also had this phenomenon with the escort detector, so I sold it. The V1 doesn't have this issue.

It definitely has to do with the sat nav - If you point it at the navi screen it'll go off screaming laser ; i also tried this in my mom's sienna w/ navi and the same effect - laser warnings : i have a Beltronics V995 : and it'll only go off when the radar detector is only a few inches away from the screen

It worked with me opening up the device and making sure all of the lenses were sealed and touching the edges. I couldn't put it on the side because the coiled wire was in the way.

I actually called escort about this like 4 months ago and they said they can fix this problem. They said some additional shielding needs to be added to the x50, but the catch is you have to pair for the repair so I was like forget that, I can live with this happening one every couple months that it happens and until I can afford to get a new radar.
