Error Code 0325 (knock sensor circuit malfunction) - caused by old fuel/storage, or ?

Hi everyone,

I posted a few days ago ago about a Check Engine Light after taking my TL out of storage (1.5 years).
I got the error codes below but no idea where to go from here.

Sounds like it may be fuel related, but anyone have better info?
I stored it with 3/4 tank w/ stabilizer...should I siphon it out and refuel, or should I drive on the existing gas til gone?

Thanks!

to confirm, you'll need to remove the intake manifold and it's runners to see inspect the knock sensor.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Pretty sure there were rodents.
DIY seems straightforward but a bit daunting. Can I mess anything up if I remove the intake manifold?

only if you forget to plug something back in; the car will throw errors...but easily fixed by plugging the offending sensor back in

the hardest part of this whole process is getting to the nuts for the intake runners.

some of the nuts are offset and hard to reach

Firewall runner, removed.

Hidden bolt on the front runner, side the battery is on.
this is why it's hard, remove the rear runner first.

Can anyone advise, would this an urgent fix? I may only use the car to run a few errands around town and would really like to put off the repair for a couple of months.
It is otherwise driving smoothly.

the knock sensor is important because it will tell the ECU to retard timing when knock is detected.

Knock sensor.

Just got this code as well and waiting on the sensor to arrive. I thought it was bad gas at first but saw the cables chewed up. Going to do all new gaskets and a throttle body/ intake manifold clean while ive got it apart.

Good to know I'm not going through this alone. Just wondering how you were able to see the cables. Did you already start disassembling?
Maybe I'm not looking in the right place but I can;t see the wiring. I do see signs of mice though.

when looking in the engine bay left hand side by the power steering pump there should be a connection. If you see aigns of mice its a good chance its toast. The new cable cost $15 from honda and the knock sensor i think was about $45 on amazon. Ive heard you can re-use the gaskets if you careful but for me I'm going with all new gaskets for peace of mind. My parts come in saturday and ill take pictures if your interested. Remember to take your time and take pictures of it before you take it apart to help with re installing. Good luck

Disassembly done, now what? Reuse OEM sensor or replace?

OK, I followed the guide and youtube videos and many thanks to everyone who pitched in to this thread!
I will post pictures later but there was a huge amount of rodent crap and nest materials in there. It took me about 1 hour to do the disassembly, but another hour just to clean it out.

In brief, the knock sensor wire was chewed right through. The sensor itself looks fine. I have a replacement coming in today but am wondering if I should wait and switch it out, or use the old one.
I ordered a $35 Standard one from Amazon. The Honda counter quoted me $105. Would the old Honda one be better than the Standard? Maybe I could return it?
Or is it maybe the type of part that's not too complicated so brand doesn't matter?

steel wool for the pests?

Also, do you think it's advisable to throw some steel wool in there while its opened up to keep the pests out?

Final Report

My final report, if anyone is interested:

Received my $35 aftermarket (Standard brand) replacement knock sensor from Amazon (Canada). Harness from Honda was $15.

I used the recommended torque specs/order for re-installing the intake manifold, cover and TB, but basically couldn't anywhere else as I had to get creative to get a socket/wrench into the other spaces No way a torque wrench was going to fit.

Cleaned the TB and re-used gaskets.

Test drive and no CEL. Checked for codes - so far so good. Fingers crossed for the future. Looking for ways to prevent future infestation.

1h disassembly + 1h cleaning rodent crap + 1h re-assembly (novice pacing and took a lot of care not to drop any fasteners).

Everything was straightforward but the bolts behind the lower manifold were really tricky. I used a smaller 3/8 ratchet on the passenger side (behind the knock sensor bracket) which just barely fit, and an extension for the driver's side.

Attached photo only shows the tip of the 'iceberg'
