Unhappy Engine Temperature Gauge

When I turned my 06 TL on this afternoon, the Engine Temperature Gauge stayed all of the way on the bottom , while all of the other gauges shot up. Also, I'm not sure if this is related or not but a couple of times when I have went to start the car, nothing has happened, then after I try again it just starts perfectly. Any idea whats going on or if it is related

When it's not starting, it doesn't turn over or anything, it just doesn't make a noise at all

How old is your battery?

Check your battery connections - make sure they are tight and clean.

With an intermittent problem, it may be electrical.

Try the gauge sweep test

"Hold trip/reset button
Turn headlights on
Turn ignition switch to ON
Within 5 seconds turn the headlights off, then on, then off
WIthin 5 seconds release the trip/reset button, then push it 3 times

The MID will light up and test itself, all dummy lights will flash, and the needles will sweep from min to max to min

Pushing the trip/reset button repeats the test!"

Well it was moving slightly up but just barely so I don't think that the gauge is broken

Have you tried driving your car for 10+ minutes than checking the temperature gauge?

From your original post it sounds like you're starting your car for the first time of the day and expecting the coolant gauge to move immediately. Your engine coolant has to warm up first

It hadn't been driven for a couple of hours. The temperature gauge not springing up didn't really bother me, it was just in combination with the not starting/turning over that made me kind of suspicious of something.
