Okay, here is the scoop; I have a 04 TL w/18K miles. The engine has been pinging under load (3 passengers, on-ramp to highway, up hills etc.) for the last 6-8K miles. The car has been to the dealer four times. They have checked heat shields, timing and knock sensor and everything has come back “within specs”. They admit it is pinging but have no correction.

Acura tech line maintains the problem must be bad gasoline. I have run nothing but 93 octane. The tech line told them to run it down to empty and fill it with “fresh” fuel….and it still pings. They have run two cans of top engine clean through the motor and is still pings.

I have filed a lemon law complaint with my state and I’m getting ready for BBB automotive arbitration.

I have two other vehicles with more than 130k miles each. They do not and have not pinged.

Although I will deny how I know this fact, octane booster has no affect on the problem.

 

So keep driving it....
