Engine noise & no Vtec...
Engine noise & no Vtec...
Hi, I did purchase a 07 Tl Type s 2 weeks ago, recently i found the engine have a cliking sound coming from the engine but not from the head, i did bring my car to the dealership. The service guy did hear the noise and he named the problem a small piston snap and he said this is normal for that engine!! Also i found the vtec won't engage and the rpm cut of at 5500rpm in 1st gear with VSA off when the car doesn't have traction, at time only but for me it sounds like oil pump problem... If somebody can help me, i will feel better!! hehe Thanks for your help.
The car have 44000miles
The car have 44000miles
Service manual says when vehicle is stopped, fuel cut out is 5000 rpm, so I'm guessing that's what happened....

I got the same car which I purchased 2 months ago...I get the same ticking noise for which I have been told by the Acura dealership and few other friends that this is normal for this engine...Haven't had a chance to get beside the same car just to compare the sound noise...To me it should not sound that way all V6 engines should be running very smooth and noise free....As far as cut off goes mine will cut of as well while at stop at 5500rpms....
What type of oil did you put on your engine? 5w20 full synthetic? My brother have a 350z, no noise coming from the engine, for a luxury car i was think it should be very smooth. That's the only think i don't like about the car but if the dealer said it's normal and you think is normal too, hopefully it's normal

I have this same problem and this isnt normal cause the noise just started about 5,000 miles ago now im at 70,000miles . it is on my last nerve I could be normal for a car wid 70,000 mils but not 44,000
no one has described the sound other than a clicking sound.
does it taptaptaptaptaptap?
like nfnsquared said, depending on who you talk too, its characterized as a noisy valvetrain and or injectors.
my '06 with 40,000 miles displays this sound when started COLD. after it warms up the sound goes away.
this tells me that its a characteristic of the engine and most Honda engines display the same noise.
if it goes away after the engine is warm, then it isnt something to be worried about.
^cant see vids at work.
is it a tapping noise?
taptaptaptaptaptap? tatatatatatataata?
I also used a different weight of oil this time around and I believe the tapping sound is more pronounced....or maybe the cold weather is making it louder. time can only tell as i do more testing

After reading multiple threads on here I'm not too worried about it. I also purchased an extended 5 yr 100k warranty so that gives me a little extra peace of mind. Sorry about the double post. Blame my iPhone.
is this the noise, link below

Sounds like my engine when it's cold.
FYI, I also adjusted my valves when I did my TB change. My intake valves were a little loose (by 0.001"). The adjustment made no difference. Sound is still there when cold.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you're really freaked out, take it to a dealer. I'm pretty sure they'll tell you the same thing.
P.S. what weight oil are you running now?

ok I plan on taking it to a dealership in the summer cause I dont have warranty =/...and when u say what weight im running im not sure what that means but I put 5 qt of Quickerstate 5-20 synthetic oil
From the vid... that sounded to me like the injectors... Nothing to worry about at all if that's the case...
Injectors/lifters settle with engine use... become louder and then top off at a certain noise level. Tapping that fast at idle is what makes me think it's the injectors. If it was something more serious, They wouldn't tap that fast at idle... they'd be slower and speed up and get louder as you throttle.

There's the same noise than mine, the noise is not coming from the head so i don't think is coming from the valve or injector if you put the car on a lift you can hear the noise coming more from the bottom of the engine. The dealership think is a small piston snap from the bottom of the engine and he said the noise is not much noisy to worry about. He said he drive a 3.2 Tl and he have the same noise since 100 000km and now the noise is worst but he have 320 000km. But he said normally the noise is worst cold. For me, no difference cold or warm... I was see a car whith that noise before and it was engine knoking on the crank, that's why i was nervous about that. Hope not because for the warranty, i need to go to u.s.a and i'm from Canada!

^^^I'd get a new mechanic....
I agree with "nfnsquared".
Just about every honda I've ever wrenched on, taps a little.
If it worsens... I'd get it checked out by a good honda tech - Someone that knows a little more than I do.
Questions - Did you buy the car new? Has it always been NA?

I can barely hear the noise while standing outside with the hood down. With the hood up, it's definitely noticeable.
Inside the car, no way. Don't hear it at all...
If you can honestly hear it inside with all windows rolled up, you may want to have it checked...

Wait, you can hear that inside with the windows rolled up? I don't see how...I'm not there, but I find it hard to believe the sound heard on the video can be heard inside (with the windows rolled up).

I've heard faint ticks in just about every DOHC VTEC I've ever owned - Even inside the car with the windows up... it's just faint. I still don't think it's serious but if it bothers you or it begins to affect the performance... Then I'd say to go.
One other thought... TRANSMISSION?
One other thought... TRANSMISSION?
Okay well that's an easier one...
Is the car a manual trans? If so, does the ticking stop when you push in the clutch?
What I'm getting at, is that it could be a throw out bearing. They can make noise.
