Engine noise?

I had my hood popped with the engine on and there is a slight tick/tap going on but it doesn't sound serious. I dunno how to post a video on here but could forward a video I took with my phone. No loss of performance, driveability, can't hear it outside of the car or anything. Only when the hood is popped, I don't know if its common on these cars or what. If you can help I can forward the video to your email, any help will be appreciated!

Finally figured out how to upload a video with my iPad so here is the noise I'm talking about. This was a cold start.

That kind of sounds normal to me? I don't know,my speakers suck.

How many miles on the 3G OP?

Only thing i can tell you to look at/inspect is the Serpentine belt and belt tensioner. Sometimes the tensioner will wobble side to side and make a little clicking noise. Other than that, valve adjustment? That wouldn't hinder your performance, but just make an annoying little tap.

Is the sound consistent with your RPMs?

Yeah, could be the tensioner or idle pully or both. Maybe even just the belt itself. I had a very slight ticking noise last year and I changed the tensioner and idler pully and it fixed it. Also, check your plugs for the hell of it. They have been known to back out over time. Its not very common, but it can happen.

could be injectos or something related to EVAP as well. Not unusual for injectors to make a ticking noise.

Whew 1st post. My TL makes ticking noises like the vid, but was told by a buddy of mine that it is normal and explained that it was just bearings on the idle pulley wearing out.

My 09 Civic Si made a metallic whine at idle and as RPMs rise, changed my idle and tensioner pulley, then the noise was gone.

Hearing abnormal noises from the engine like that, is an annoyance and makes the wallet nervous but maintenance items like the belts and pulleys keeps the car purring.

Iv also heard the injectors can be noisy on j-series engines. Only reason I mentioned the plugs is because one if mine backed out in cyl#2, it was pain to fix, I could have saved myself a lot of headache and $ if I had just checked them, although I doubt that's your problem, your engine actually sounds ok, its prob just something on the accessory rack.

The gentleman I bought the car off of did belt tensioner, timing belt, water pump and the 100k spark plugs. I was thinking about doing the pulleys however where can I find some good aftermarket pulleys. For the muscle car we called them pulley kits and SLP made a good kit I dunno if its the same concept with these cars.

T/B tensioner is different than the serpentine belt tensioner btw. The serpentine belt tensioner isn't a "recommended" replacement part unless it's diagnosed faulty.

Sounds normal to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

The closest thing we have to the SLP stuff is a lightweight crank pulley and a lightweight/underdrive crank pulley.
