2005 TL 3.2 6speed manual with almost 100,000 on it. Started it up yesterday afternoon and it started making engine noise. Progressively getting worse. No codes have come on, no loss of power, not missing at all. Any thoughts? Oil was a little low but nothing major, and has always been changed regularly.

that sound f**k up. could be bad pulleys on the drive belt or worst, timing belt components, get a lil wd40 and spray it on the belt and pulleys, lightly tho, see if it stops

its surely coming from the rear head area close to the timing cover.. I talked to my honda stealership they said not to drive it... quoted me $900 to do timing belt work and then i called my acura stealersip and they quoted me $1400! ugh wish i knew that was the problem

Mine has only 50K miles, is it time for timing belt already?
Similar noise on my 06 TL, it's more like this though:
Is it timing belt? Or is it something else? I am not too familar with cars, what are pulleys for?

thanks. I brought it to my local auto shop (specializing in Acura and Honda), and was told that the engine sounds completely normal. I trust this guy, but went for a second opinion anyways and went to the dealer. First, they said it also sounds normal, but they pointed out that the external belt is kinda worn out. Normally it has to be replaced every 7 years or 90,000 miles. My car is 2006 and has only 53,000 miles. But, the dealership also told me that I need a new power steering pump, bc it's leaking (although I know that it's not, since it has just been recently repaired due to whining noise in the morning), and fluid is full. This is pretty standard way of dealerships trying to make money I guess.
My question is: when do we need to replace the belt really? it looks worn out, but I've never seen any belt that looks "perfect" unless it's new. And I'm in California if it matters.

To the OP, it's too quick to be a rod knock or valvetrain. Sounds like it gets worse with heat. I would say a hurt piston or more likely a pulley.
Does it get worse with load or with rpm?
Also, was the AC or defrost on at the time? I'm sure you would hear it cycling but I've heard AC compressors sound like this as well right before they go out. I wouldn't concentrate on this too much, slim to no chance but I thought I would throw it out there.

having a load on it makes no difference, the noise does increase with rpms as well. I have an acura tech stopping over tomorrow to take a look for me. I really hope its something stupid. Just got our income tax and really don't want to spend it on a new motor.
Thanks for the reply

I would do what Turbonut says and take the belt off and start it for a few seconds. This will eliminate all pulleys and accessories driven by that belt. What part of the country are you in?

try reading up my thread about engine noise
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/engine-ticking-loud-under-3000-rpm-when-cold-helpppp-848337/
maybe this would help.
yours might be the tensioner on the acc belt mine is going also.
look at it carefully is it vibrating when spinning?

I can tell you beyond a doubt, the noise in the video is not exhaust valves. The engine would not idle with that kind of noise if it were exhaust valves and it's the completely wrong sound.

The noise will probably go away when he does the belt since whatever pulley is causing the problem will likely be replaced. Hopefully he gives you back the failed component so we can see.

trust me as long as its fixed ill be a happy camper. I still think as well that its a auto tensioner taking a shit but the valve need adjusted either way. i do appreciate the help tho
