Engine braking is too loud
Engine braking is too loud
Help guys, anytime I use engine braking or letting go of my accelerater and when the rev goes down, it makes that engine braking, winding sounds. Its definitely louder than it should be but doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes its just a normal quiet ride. I notice its louder in 1st and 2nd gear where engine braking is more powerful and from then it progressly goes softer and softer. Clutch needs replacement?
are you using the engine break technique by using 1st gear? I sure hope not. If you are using engine break you should be using 2nd 3rd gear and i hope you're watching those revs.. seriously, use the brakes as much as you can to stop the car, only use engine break if you feel like you need extra "stopping power"
if this is a 6MT you probably shouldnt be engine braking in 1st gear.. Might as well just use your regular brakes at that point.
When downshifting I go to maybe 2nd..3rd is usually good enough for me to make a slow turn.
If you're going down a hill that's steep enough to actually spin the engine faster the engine could potentially get louder, but that's usually if you're in the upper RPM range such as ~3k while engine braking. But my point still stands, you should not need to downshift into 1st unless you're in a parking lot.

Sorry, 6MT.
Sorry again, i think i wrote my last sentence wrong. I dont use first gear to engine brake. I meant to say 1st and 2nd where the gears are at its highest power.
I just came back from driving again and it's makes that motor-y winding noise in 1st and 2nd gear, which sounds like engine braking noise. I thought it makes that noise only when i engine brake, but its not. Anytime i am in 1st and 2nd gear, i hear it.
Side rant: Why is it that i cant edit my original post?

It's because people have been known to start a bunch of crap and/or mis-post information, then later go back and change what they posted, either back-tracking or messing up the meaning of everything that was posted afterwards.
So, you get a little time for basic corrections, but if you don't like the over-all direction a thread takes ....
