Driving and notice this about my dash

Driving back from the gym today i notice something funny about the dash board and am like WTF for real!

Do you guys think Acura would honor this if i said what if this happens to the passenger airbag side?

cracked dash. unfortunately, a common problem with our cars. you can take a shot at the dealer for a good will repair but i wouldn't get my hopes up if i were you.

sorry man...i'm still waiting on the day that mine does that.

what? it's a common problem? damn i didn't know...do you think it has to do with what you use to clean the inside? or sun damage? man i need to invest in one of those sun guard things asap!

from all the years of the cracked dash (happens in a lot of the southern HOT SUNNY states)...it really has nothing to do with cleaning products (but you should use aerospace 303 on it btw).

the theory is the tolerance to of the dash material to extremes. ie...extreme heat then crank your AC on which is cold...stresses the dash. this is only one theory of course.

your dealer is gonna charge $2k to fix it. good will fixes range from $0 out of pocket to $1k out of pocket while the dealer and acura pick up the rest.

if you park in the sun a lot (esp in HI-per your location) use a sunshade for your windshield. sorry about your dash...

There is a at least one massive thread about it plus a couple of smaller ones.

I think it's sun/UV related. And I think Acura should warranty it, but mostly they don't.

Relax. Its not that bad yet

If you want to see the epitome of bad, check out my dash as of 2 months ago. Please excuse the dirtyness. I had just got back from a big road trip.

I am a firm believer that my dash is one of the worst out there at the moment. The car has never been garaged, and it typically spends most of its time in the sun. The car has no tints, and only had a windshield visor for a brief while. I believe the cracking coming from big temperature swings. The super hot florida sun with the occasionally cool nights wreaked havoc on my dash. Again, Those pictures are 2 months old. I believe there are new cracks already.

TLtrigirl and swoosh thanks for the comments and link. and thank you to the others. But still that shit came out of no where. yesterday fine i drove it to the gym in the morning than parked and went diving.

i think Acura should replace it because before i bought the TL i had a Integra that my cousin bought from me and that thing is 1995 dash looks like it's brand new with some . If they give me the dash i will replace it for myself. TLgirl i do park outside landlord's for the house i live in converted the garage into a studio (before i live here) so street parking. i am going to try and ask Acura about this never hurts to ask. if not i will be state side soon to do some junk yard shopping. everyone else thanks for the help as well.

nah the air bag wont deploy by itself unless triggered. People have gone to acura about the cracks messing with the deployment but they said it's fine.

Unfortunately what we think and what Acura chooses to do are not the same thing.

Some have gotten some Good Will consideration, so it's worth a try. Just don't be too disappointed if you end up empty handed.

Ive always been mildly concerned that if the airbag deployed that the flap would fragment, sending a shard of the dash into the passengers face at rocket speeds.

Ive considered pressing this point to Acura, but ive never got around to doing so. Maybe one day

Make a complaint here: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

NHTSA institutes safety recalls with the auto makers. With enough complaints on the safety aspect, you may be helping yourself AND the next guy with a dash problem.

Why your complaint is important

Your complaint information will be entered into NHTSA-ODI's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists. More...
